Offers a team approach for providing disciplinary services to adults with severe and persistent mental illness who have not been successful with other treatment options and may pose a risk to themselves or others. Offers case management and community based services which may include psychiatry, nursing, a variety of mental health services and peer specialists.

Affiliated with the Stony Brook Clinical Psychology Ph.D. the KPC is an outpatient mental health facility that has been serving the community since 1972. As a nonprofit training clinic for clinical psychologists, we provide psychological services based on the latest clinical and research advances. The psychological services provided at the KPC are based on cognitive-behavioral treatment models, which address the “here and now” and the problem thoughts, feelings, and behaviors that may be associated with your distress. Our therapy is active and involves a collaborative effort and commitment between you and your therapist as you work towards measurable goals. CBT-based interventions are available for a wide range of problems, as typically found in outpatient clinics. Problems addressed include issues related to anxiety difficulties, adjustment problems, depression, grief, trauma, anger control problems, issues related to parenting, conduct issues with children, relationship and couple problems, sexual difficulties, occupational difficulties, academic problems including learning difficulties and ADHD, as well as issues related to personality. In addition, at the KPC we have state-of-the art specialty clinics designed to address specific kinds of problems: Anxiety Disorders; Depressive Disorders; Couple and Marital Relationships and Children and Teens. All clients will first undergo a careful assessment. We offer one-on-one treatment, couple and family therapy, as well as several group therapy programs. Treatment is typically once weekly, although more intensive schedules are also possible when warranted. The length of treatment varies depending on the severity and types of clinical problems. The average duration of treatment is approximately 12 to 16 sessions. We operate on a Wait List system. After a brief phone screening process, which takes approximately 15 minutes, you are entered onto our Wait List, which allows us time to match your needs with the best appropriate therapist from our team. We do not contract with insurance providers; however, our fees are based on a sliding scale according to income and are considerably lower than those of practitioners in the community. The Krasner Psychological Center is open and available to service our community during the COVID-19 crisis and quarantine. We are currently providing psychological services (psychotherapy and assessments) via a hybrid approach, namely telehealth and/or in-person contingent on therapist's availability. Supports persons with mental health disabilities in the process of taking control of their lives and learning to be self-sufficient. Services include helping clients with financial matters, obtaining medical care, legal services, relationships, housing choices, using public transportation, choosing day programs, etc.. The Sayville Project is sponsored by the School of Social Welfare at Stony Brook University.

Provides a therapeutic recreation program including group therapeutic activities for children with a serious emotional disturbance. Fosters better socialization skills and offers arts and crafts, sports activities, and field trips.

Offers veterans and their families residing in Nassau or Suffolk County a six-week workshop focusing on issues military families commonly encounter. Provides participants with strategies to deal with the stress of deployment, combat and re-transition home along with information on the root causes of stress and substance abuse. Aims to enhance family empathy, clarify family boundaries, roles and responsibilities, foster communication and resiliency.

Provides comprehensive mental health services to patients in their own homes. Offers specialized programs for patients of various ages. Arranges for other services for patients as needed and advocates for patients/families. Provides evaluation with feedback to medical doctor or treatment team, medication administration/education, behavior modification, general health/nutrition status assessment. The ADAA promotes the early diagnosis, treatment and cure of anxiety disorders and is committed to improving the lives of those who suffer from them. Members include clinicians and researchers who treat and study individuals with anxiety disorders and their families, and other interested individuals. Provides resources such as a lending library on mental health issues, computer and internet services, recovery, consumer issues in book, video and audio cassette to both individuals with mental illness and mental health care providers. Resources support recovery based models of rehabilitation. Coordinates the Long Island Committee on Sexual Abuse.

Provides acute, intense, short-term, inpatient psychiatric treatment to adolescents ages 12-17. Aims to achieve rapid stabilization to make possible ongoing treatment in a less restrictive setting. A variety of behavioral and emotional problems are treated including: anxiety disorders, Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorders and other disruptive behavior disorders, mood disorders including major depression, bipolar disorders and psychotic disorders. Facilitates and coordinates leading medical research facilities which will be funded to work together to promote ways to help veterans and their families creates communities for the traumatically injured returning veterans in a supportive environment so they can buy their own affordable, well-built homes designed and built by veterans, especially for disabled veterans and their families provides vocational training as well as provides veterans assistance in helping establish their own business in order to help them re-integrate into society unifies veterans service organizations in order to effectively perform their missions in support of the National Disabled Veterans Business Council. This is accomplished by utilizing the print and broadcast media through the creation of television shows, films, documentaries, acquiring scripts, music and producing a concert series to entertain and make known to the public the issues related to returning from war.

Provides but is not limited to continuous assessment of AOD, continuous assessment of PTS/PTSD, continuous assessment of occupational stressors, identifying the connection between PTS/PTSD and addiction, activation management and relapse prevention. Referral required.

Provides residential treatment services to children and adolescents who suffer serious emotional difficulties 5 to 17 years of age in five homes in Nassau and Suffolk Counties(Bethpage, Farmingdale, Islip, Manorville, and Plainview). Services include counseling, daily living skills, education/vocational support, socialization, family support groups, and family therapy.

Evaluates and treats children in the inpatient unit, aged 5-13 years, for emotional and behavioral problems, using short term stays (1-12 weeks). Discharge planning includes school placement, outpatient follow-up and family support. Also provides outpatient psychiatric evaluations and treatment for children, adolescents and families including medical assessments of medication for behavior disorders, school psychiatric evaluations, preschool assessment, forensic evaluation for various externalizing disorders such as affective disorders, hyperactivity, attention, impulsivity and conduct problems, affective disorders such as depression and/or mania and developmental disorders and language problems.

Provides a supportive environment for individuals with mental health disabilities to meet, socialize, share a meal, and explore their community. It is a perfect avenue to practice learned community and life skills through field trips, arts and crafts, music, games and sports.

Provides consultation, evaluation and individual, group and family treatments for children and adolescents with behavioral and emotional difficulties and their families. Specialized programs under Ambulatory Care include medication evaluation and treatment legal services for divorce, abuse and criminal justice issues psycholtherapy for gay and lesbian youth and parent and professional education. Provides adults with a psychiatric disability ages 18 and over with a single room in a community residence that offers varying levels of supervision and assistance.

Serves boys, ages 10-17, who suffer serious emotional disturbance. Offers a highly structured, treatment oriented, cost effective alternative to placement in a psychiatric hospital. Located in McKeown House on the Syosset campus.

Provides home and community based services (like planned respite and pre vocational supports) to children who have a serious emotional disturbance (SED) diagnosis.

Provides housing and supportive services aimed at assisting clients who have a psychiatric disability to maintain themselves in the community. Serves Nassau County residents 18 and over with a primary psychiatric diagnosis. For certain locations, individuals must also meet HUD requirements for homelessness. Referral required. OASAS program-primary substance abuse diagnosis and subsequent hospitalization in addition to homelessness.

Provides a support group for persons with eating disorders. A 12 Step program is available for recovery and is discussed at regular meetings. Check website for meeting dates, times and locations.

An outpatient treatment center offering: assessments, psychiatric evaluations, medication management and ancillary withdrawal (suboxone induction & maintenance.) along with outpatient individual and group treatment services for adults, young adults/adolescents and significant others/family members. Specialized programs include but are not limited to: women, co-occurring disorders, DWI's, criminal justice population, domestic violence and young adults/adolescents.

A twelve-step program for women with problems related to food including, but not limited to, compulsive overeaters, those with binge eating disorder, bulimics and anorexics. Meets every Thursday in Conference rooms 4 and 5. For information text Terri at (631) 241-2403.

Offers a short term program that provides an intensive structured treatment environment five days a week/five hours a day for adult mentally ill and mentally-ill chemically addicted invidicuals who are experiencing severe psychiatric symptoms. It can serve as an alternative to an Inpatient Psychiatric Unit stay, or as a step-down program to decrease the length of an Inpatient Unit admission. A multidisciplinary team consisting of a Psychiatrist, Registered Nurse, Social Worker, Alcoholism Counselor and an Art Therapist provide treatment to assist the individual with regaining stability of their symptoms. Treatment services include assessment, psychiatric evaluation, health screening and referral, group and individual therapy, medication management, education and administration, activity therapy, family support and education, crisis intervention, discharge planning, and case management.

Provides 24 hour supervision in a residential home-like setting. Mental health restorative services are provided to all of the residents, including medication management, socialization, and symptom management.
