May be able to help crime victims (family members also may be eligible for help) with medical bills and counseling expenses; burial and funeral costs; lost wages; and other types of assistance. The OVS also funds a network of victim service providers across New York State. Forms for victims to fill out are available from the sheriff or police departments.Eligibility Requirements: Provides compensation benefits to innocent victims who sustained personal injury or their survivors in the case of homicide. Child victims, disabled victims, victims over the age of 60 and victims of certain crimes may be eligible for certain categories of compensation without sustaining injury.
CVAC staff helps crime victims apply for victim's financial compensation from New York State Office of Victim Services. Guidelines for compensation explained and could include reimbursement of out-of-pocket expenses for medical treatment not covered by insurance, loss of earnings, counseling, transportation for court appearances, and burial expenses.

Provides substantial financial relief to victims of crime and their families by paying unreimbursed crime-related expenses, including but not limited to: medical and burial expenses, loss of earnings or support, counseling costs, crime scene clean-up expenses, the cost to repair or replace items of essential personal property, reasonable court transportation expenses, assistance to crime victims acting as a good Samaritan, the cost of residing at or utilizing the services of a domestic violence shelter, and limited attorney fees.
Provides victim services for adult rape and child victims of sexual abuse and domestic violence victims, such as criminal justice advocacy, 24 hour crisis intervention counseling and support services. Assistance obtaining an order of protection, medical and courtroom accompaniment reimbursement for expenses related to the crime and referrals for social services. Offers translation for 170 different languages.

Services Include: Assistance with applying to New York State Crime Victims Board for compensation; Information on your role in the criminal justice process and the significant stages of the process; Assistance with security measures to help protect your safety; Court information and case information. This includes explaining each step of the proceeding in order to help alleviate confusion and the resulting anxiety. Additionally court dates, times and places can be confirmed along with information on what to expect when you get there; Court accompaniment. If desired, a staff member of the Victim Services Unit will accompany the victim or witness to hearings and trial in order to provide support; Assistance with Property Return; Intervention with creditors and employers; Referrals to any social services you may need and Assistance with post-conviction proceedings, including the preparation of a Victim Impact Statement if a pre-sentence report is prepared in the case; speaking at the time of sentencing for felony offenses; and notifications regarding the defendant's parole or release from a correctional facility.
