SUPPLEMENTAL NUTRITION ASSISTANCE PROGRAM - CHENANGO DSS | CHENANGO COUNTY DEPARTMENT OF SOCIAL SERVICES

Provides food benefits to low-income families to supplement their grocery budget so they can afford the nutritious food essential to health and well-being. Handles SNAP appeals/complaints and SNAP fraud reporting.Able-Bodied Adults Without Dependents (ABAWDs) are SNAP recipients aged 18-64 who are able to work and don't have a dependent child in their household. They can only receive SNAP benefits for a limited time (3 months in a 36-month period) unless they meet certain work requirements or have an exemption. These work requirements generally involve working or participating in a work program for at least 20 hours per week (80 hours per month). HURRICANE SANDY RESOURCE AND REFERRAL PROGRAM | FAMILY RESIDENCES AND ESSENTIAL ENTERPRISES

Serves as a resource and referral network for Long Island Hurricane Sandy survivors to gain access to much needed services such as individual case work, housing assistance and social service supports. Determines eligibility for services and ensures that long term recovery plans are in place. This program is supported through the American Red Cross. Call for further information. Walk ins welcome. Assistance available in American Sign Language, Spanish and Creole.

Offers an appliance grant program for state residents who sustained property damage due to Hurricane Irene and Tropical Storm Lee. The program will help cover the cost of replacing vital household appliances, such as refrigerators, boilers, hot water/heater tanks, washing machines, dryers, dehumidifiers, and furnaces damaged by flooding. Purchase of appliances and equipment must be for replacement purposes only and were not covered by insurance or FEMA.

Neighbor to Neighbor (formerly Love Knows No Bounds) is a volunteer-run non-profit that collects and delivers good quality donated beds and furniture, and performs critical home repairs.Our furniture redistribution, repair programs, and special one-day projects serve low-income residents of Tompkins County. Both programs are run entirely through assistance from volunteers in our community.Due to the long waiting list for furniture, only agencies can make referrals for furniture.
