FIFTH PRECINCT | FIFTH PRECINCT

Provides patrol and other police services to the southern portion of Brookhaven Town, the eastern portion of Islip Town, and the incorporated villages of Patchogue and Bellport. The 5th Precinct hosts open community meetings. The COPE Unit is tasked with addressing various community concerns, including traffic complaints and quality of life issues. COPE officers and the CLO regularly communicate with local community groups and attend local community meetings to spread public safety news and messages. COMMUNITY RELATIONS UNIT | RIVERHEAD CORRECTIONAL FACILITY

Provides one of the most vital units throughout the Sheriff’s office. Throughout the year, Community Relations Unit visits each Suffolk County School District as well as multiple clubs and various organizations. Its main goal is to bridge the gap between Law Enforcement and the members of the Community. CRU is responsible for implementing community outreach and school-based programs, organizing events, and promoting the Sheriff’s mission. The unit offers an array of Community and School-based programs free of charge for all Suffolk County schools, businesses, organizations, non-profits and agencies. SECOND PRECINCT | SECOND PRECINCT

Serves the communities contained within the geographical area of the following communities: Incorporated Village of Bayville, East Norwich, Hicksville, Jericho, Incorporated Village of Lattingtown, Locust Valley, Oyster Bay, Plainview, Syosset, Westbury and Woodbury. The following communities (and college) within the borders of the Second Precinct are each patrolled by their own police departments: Center Island; City of Glen Cove; Muttontown; Old Brookville covering Brookville, Cove Neck, Matinecock, Mill Neck, Old Brookville and Upper Brookville; Old Westbury; Oyster Bay Cove which additionally covers the Incorporated Village of Laurel Hollow; and SUNY College at Old Westbury. SCHOOL RESOURCE OFFICER PROGRAM | SUFFOLK COUNTY POLICE COMMUNITY RELATIONS BUREAU

Act as a liaison between the school administration, students, and the Police Department. SROs provide a safe learning environment in schools, contribute valuable resources to school staff members, and foster positive relationships with youth and the community. SROs work with school officials in identifying at-risk youth, then mentor and guide them to resources within their community to help form more positive behaviors and choices. SCPD has a Spanish speaking SRO assigned to the Community Relations Bureau to help foster relationships with the Spanish speaking community within Suffolk County. School Resource Officers conduct presentations to high schools and middle schools across the county regarding various safety topics, including, but not limited to, Internet Safety, The Dangers of Drugs and Alcohol, Vehicle Safety, What To Do When Stopped by the Police and Opportunities of Employment within the Suffolk County Police Department. SROs also conduct programs in Elementary Schools such as 911 Awareness and Stranger Danger. SROs participate in after school activities such as sports, cooking, hiking and fishing. SROs also organize field trips such as Police Week and assist at college visits with school personnel, providing students with the ability to develop a close relationship with their SRO. Programs can be tailored and every effort will be made to accommodate the needs of each individual school based on current events and local issues. YOUTH ACADEMY | SUFFOLK COUNTY POLICE COMMUNITY RELATIONS BUREAU

Offers four different Youth Academy programs. All Youth Academy programs are 1 week in length, Monday – Friday from 9am to 3 pm. Youth Academy is held at the Suffolk County Police Academy in Brentwood, NY. We offer 5 Youth Academy sessions during the year. Provides patrol and other police services to the Town of Babylon. The officers of the First Precinct are assigned to a wide variety of tasks including community policing, motor patrol, gang enforcement, school resource officers, and quality of life enhancement. Our COPE and CSU officers work on quality of life issues ranging from traffic problems to drug complaints. The precinct commanding officer hosts precinct wide community meetings.
