Four different Youth Academy programs offered. All Youth Academy programs are 1 week in length, Monday – Friday from 9am to 3 pm. Youth Academy is held at the Suffolk County Police Academy in Brentwood, NY. We offer 5 Youth Academy sessions during the year. Youth Academy is open for ages 14 to 20 years old. Youth Academies include: High School Youth Academy; County Executive Youth Academy; Explorer/Sea Cadet Youth Academy and BOCES Criminal Justice Youth Academy. The 5th Precinct hosts an open community meeting the 2nd Tuesday of every month (with the exceptions of July and August). The COPE Unit is tasked with addressing various community concerns, including traffic complaints and quality of life issues. The Community Liaison Officer (CLO) is assigned to the Community Relations Bureau and works in conjunction with the COPE Unit to address community concerns. COPE officers and the CLO regularly communicate with local community groups and attend local community meetings to spread public safety news and messages. The officers of the First Precinct are assigned to a wide variety of tasks including community policing, motor patrol, gang enforcement, school resource officers, and quality of life enhancement. Our COPE and CSU officers work on quality of life issues ranging from traffic problems to drug complaints. The precinct commanding officer hosts a precinct wide community meeting on the first Thursday of each month. The meeting is at the West Babylon Library and starts at 7:00. At the meeting, you will be provided with crime stats for each community served by the precinct. Community members are also invited to express their concerns at the meeting.
