Provides support to fathers who are getting ready to be released from jail,are ex-offenders, or on probation and want to be a better dad and provider to the family. The program identifies each father's challenges and links them to community resources. Participants attend a 12-session workshop where they will learn, practice and strengthen specific parenting skills, communication, conflict resolution, anger management, including financial literacy training, pre-job skills, resume writing, interviewing skills, and employment support to help improve their economic stability.

Specializes in serving 9-12 year-old students with significant developmental delays/disorders, including Autism and Multiple Disabilities, who need a highly structured learning environment. Some of the program’s highlights include: The program's classes are small, allowing for an intensive learning environment. The staff utilize the principles of Applied Behavioral Analysis (ABA) to address academic, language, social/emotional and ADL (activities of daily living) skills. New skills and the shaping of behaviors are taught through repetition and reinforcement. A progressive total communication system is utilized; including spoken words, photographs, pictures, symbols and/or sign language, to increase communication skills. The Picture Exchange Communication System (PECS) is utilized program-wide to engage students in a social exchange for requesting, communicating their needs and responding to their environment. Many schoolwide activities are presented each year including, musical activities, class trips and celebrations for holidays and special events. The students benefit from physical education, music and art programs. Specially trained staff are available to address any mealtime management concerns that may arise. We offer IEP-based speech and language services including evaluations, individual and group therapy and consultation with treatment team members and family. Research-based methodologies, such as Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA), visual strategies, the Picture Exchange Communication System (PECS), augmentative communications systems, functional behavioral assessment and positive behavioral supports are utilized in this program. The Rosemary Kennedy School consists of the elementary, middle and high school classes as well as district-based classes which provide mainstreaming opportunities for students. Community-based instruction is an essential part of the curriculum and compliments traditional classroom learning. Students participate in recreational activities (libraries, bowling), life skills (grocery shopping, restaurants), volunteer work sites (Mercy Hospital, Hofstra University) and vocational enclaves in the community (fast food restaurants, retail stores). Each student is educated by an interdisciplinary team comprised of the classroom teacher, teacher aides, psychologist, social worker, related service personnel, curriculum teachers and administrators. Parents are encouraged to participate in their child's education through daily communication notebooks, conferences, visits, parent training sessions and parent support groups. Transition planning for students from ages 12 to 21 is facilitated by vocational rehabilitation counselors and social workers in coordination with students and their families prior to graduation.
