Matches community volunteers or local college students with a Tompkins County resident, aged 60 or over, and also to caregivers of older adults with functional or cognitive impairments, who provide 1-2 hour weekly in-home visits which offer companionship and social connections to decrease feelings of loneliness and social isolation or gives caregivers a respite break.There is also a virtual visitation option and a new opportunity to be matched with another participant to engage in weekly phone visits.
* Initiates matching of adult volunteers to provide a supportive friendship on a one-to-one basis with adults receiving mental health treatment. Individual training provided before matches are made Ongoing, post-match trainings offered Pre-match and post-match support provided by Volunteer Coordinators Volunteer-client activities include friendly visits, social and cultural experiences, and special events* Offers Compeer Calling/E-Buddies. Support group for people with heart disease. Meeting the third Thursday of the month at 3:30 pm in the auditorium of the administrative services building at Benedictine. Volunteers also available for friendly visiting while someone is hospitalized for a heart condition.
