The program provides education, health counseling, and appropriate follow up and referral services. Specially trained nurse examiners will provide individualized care to victims while gathering forensic evidence vital to police. Also provides advocates who are available for ongoing support to victims and significant others.

The Sexual Assault Examiner (SAE) Program offers forensic evidence collection and post-sexual assault treatment for survivors of sexual violence who are at least 12 years of age.
**THIS AGENCY HAS DISCONTINUED SERVICES AS OF MARCH 14, 2025** Forensic nurses provide rape and sexual assault victims with care in private, on-premises center specially designed for treatment of rape victims. Provides emotional support and advocacy. Performs sexual offense evidence collection kit and rape kit. Drug facilitated sexual assault blood and urine specimen collected. Confidential. Police involvement at the discretion of the victim. Program is a collaborative effort of the Special Victims Squad of the Nassau County Police Department, the North Shore-L.I.J. Health System, the Nassau County Coalition Against Domestic Violence (NCCADV) and the Sex Offense and Domestic Violence Bureau of the Nassau County District Attorney's Office.

Trained counselors are available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week to provide information and support, enabling clients to make informed choices concerning medical, legal, and counseling needs, while offering advocacy and information about their rights. Counselors offer short-term counseling (6-8 sessions); medical, legal, and court accompaniment; crisis intervention for sexual assault survivors and their significant others; support through medical examinations and treatment; advocacy and support during interaction with law enforcement; individual consultations with professionals; community education programs; professional training programs; and referrals for additional needed services. Serves as the point of contact for domestic violence shelter placement in Wyoming County.
