Offers a 15-credit program for current teachers who wish to expand their area of teaching expertise. With the study of the methodology and pedagogy of teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages, current teachers will enhance their existing skills in addition to learning new ones. A practicum setting is required as the capstone experience for this K-12 TESOL certification. Teacher candidates who successfully complete this Advanced Certificate program would be eligible to take the NYSED certification examinations for the K-12 TESOL initial certification. OCEANOGRAPHY AT STONY BROOK SOUTHAMPTON | STONY BROOK SOUTHAMPTON

Offers a college course to high school students during the summer. Students will examine the World Ocean and the chemical, geological, and physical processes that control its major features and the life that inhabits it, as well as explore human interactions with the marine environment. This intensive course is specifically designed for motivated high school students wishing to earn college credit, but current undergraduates, graduates, or professionals can also enroll. The short-term course will run for 2 weeks and meet for 4-5.5 hours each weekday at the Stony Brook Southampton campus. Content will be delivered via lectures, in-class activities, and 2 boat trips in which students will explore nearby coastal habitats using oceanographic sampling equipment. CENTER FOR KOREAN STUDIES | STONY BROOK UNIVERSITY

Has long been a vital center of intellectual innovations and scholarly exchanges not only for the Stony Brook community but also for the entire U.S. Uniquely poised to be a hub for research and education in Korean religions and philosophy, the Center has trained and sponsored many Ph.D. students in Korean religions and Buddhism who are now academic leaders in Korea and the U.S., hosted various conferences, talks, seminars, and various cultural events, and worked with the community in various projects to bring Korea to campus. The most prominent area of the Center’s dedication is publications. It has published a dozens of series of manuscripts and research projects in Korean studies, through which the Center not only helped laying the foundation of the Korean Studies as a new discipline in the United States, but also located and supported emerging young scholars in Korean studies. Many projects at the Center have involved collaboration with universities and scholars in Korea, while others have engaged campus and off-campus communities in teaching and learning about broader global and international society through Korea.
