Helps people who are applying for public or subsidized housing who have been denied, or tenants in public or subsidized housing who are worried about losing their subsidy or who have questions about how their rent has been calculated. Helps tenants whose landlords are not making necessary repairs and who are forced to live under unsafe or hazardous conditions. Provides representation to youths in special immigrant juvenile matters and child maltreatment cases. The clinic advocates in the Queens, Nassau and Suffolk family courts, as well as before immigration court judges and hearing officers in Manhattan, on behalf of youth in cases where the allegations range from physical and sexual abuse to educational neglect, abandonment and inadequate supervision. In addition, the clinic often represents their clients on related issues, such as delinquency, custody and school suspension matters.
