Counselors offer individual counseling, facilitate survivor support groups, accompany victims to court, advocate for client needs and work with families to prepare for the transition to a violence-free home. Safety planning is conducted throughout the counseling process.

Provides services to crime victims and witnesses involved in the criminal justice process. Services Include: Assistance with applying to New York State Crime Victims Board for compensation; Information on your role in the criminal justice process and the significant stages of the process; Assistance with security measures to help protect your safety; Court information and case information. This includes explaining each step of the proceeding in order to help alleviate confusion and the resulting anxiety. Additionally court dates, times and places can be confirmed along with information on what to expect when you get there; Court accompaniment. If desired, a staff member of the Victim Services Unit will accompany the victim or witness to hearings and trial in order to provide support; Assistance with Property Return; Intervention with creditors and employers; Referrals to any social services you may need and Assistance with post-conviction proceedings, including the preparation of a Victim Impact Statement if a pre-sentence report is prepared in the case; speaking at the time of sentencing for felony offenses; and notifications regarding the defendant's parole or release from a correctional facility. These services include crime victim board claims, court accompaniment, counseling and referral, crisis response to police, hospitals and support groups. Also provides community education to schools, law enforcement and civic groups. Staff or volunteers provide crisis response to hotline calls 24 hours per day, seven days a week.

Mediation services are designed as an alternative to court to handle civil or minor criminal issues and disputes such as family conflicts, neighbor-to-neighbor disputes, consumer-merchant problems, landlord-tenant complaints and student-to-student or student-to-teacher disputes. Settlements are intended to avoid future conflict without placing blame or guilt. Agreements are binding and enforceable by courts. Special eviction prevention program assists landlords and tenants before the court on eviction petitions. Provides consultation and training to schools for conflict resolution curriculum and peer mediation programs.

Provides substantial financial relief to victims of crime and their families by paying unreimbursed crime-related expenses, including but not limited to: medical and burial expenses, loss of earnings or support, counseling costs, crime scene clean-up expenses, the cost to repair or replace items of essential personal property, reasonable court transportation expenses, assistance to crime victims acting as a good Samaritan, the cost of residing at or utilizing the services of a domestic violence shelter, and limited attorney fees.

Provides assistance for Westchester residents who have been victims of crime with crisis intervention, emotional support and shortterm crisis counseling, accompaniment to hospitals, police, and courts, advocacy with police, courts, District Attorney, and other area, service providers, Information and follow-up on case status in Criminal and Family Courts, as needed, referrals to and help with arrangements for temporary housing and domestic violence shelters, assistance in filing a claim with the NY State Office of Victim Services for reimbursement of medical and counseling costs, lost wages, and funeral expenses, etc. Referral to partner agencies, safety planning, Inform victims of their rights and options.

Provide legal assistance with any victim compensation applications; legal assistance to any victim or witness with regards to any legal action related to New York Criminal Procedure Law Chapter 245; provides information on victim’s and witness’s legal rights and protections with regards to criminal process; and assist victims to submit comments to courts and parole boards.

Victims of crime may be eligible for benefits with the NYS Crime Victims Board CVB under certain circumstances including those who were physically injured as a result of a crime, children under 18, elderly 60 or over, disabled, the surviving spouse, parent, grandparent, stepparent, stepchild, child, or person dependent upon the victim who dies as a result of a crime, or the person who paid or incurred the burial expense of an innocent victim who died as a direct result of a crime limited to burial expenses only.

Sexual Assault and Prevention Services-SAPA (formerly known as Rape Crisis Services or Orange County Rape Crisis) provides 24/7 advocacy services including crisis intervention and accompaniment for adult and child survivors of sexual violence.

The Crime Victims Assistance Program (CVSS) provides assistance to victims of all types of crime.
