Serves survivors of domestic and intimate partner violence ages 16 and older and their dependent children. Anyone feeling unsafe in a relationship can call or chat using the confidential hotline, operated by trained, compassionate staff available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week to provide information and support. Services provided include confidential domestic violence shelter, supportive counseling, legal and court advocacy, assistance obtaining orders of protection, safety planning, parenting after violence service, education and support groups, transitional housing, and rapid rehousing. Individuals interested in connecting with one or more of these services should call the hotline or chat online at: https://cfsbny.org/hh-chat/ Provides six-week classes entitled "Domestic Violence Education and Parenting After Violence". This series uses a trauma-informed care model in a group setting to cover parenting issues and symptomology related to custody, separation/divorce, co-parenting, parallel parenting, foster care placements, etc. Also provides community trainings to inform and educate Western New Yorkers to recognize the signs of domestic violence and to better understand different forms of abuse. Provides assistance and information to crime victims and witnesses in Nassau County. The Nassau County District Attorney’s Office (NCDA) recognizes that crime victims and their families, and witnesses to crimes, need support and information at every stage of a criminal proceeding. VSU is staffed by Crime Victim Advocates and Legal Interpreters, who are assigned to various Bureaus throughout the office. VSU assists victims, witnesses and their families, in navigating the criminal justice system and the process of a criminal case being prosecuted by the NCDA. Mediation services are designed as an alternative to court to handle civil or minor criminal issues and disputes such as family conflicts, neighbor-to-neighbor disputes, consumer-merchant problems, landlord-tenant complaints and student-to-student or student-to-teacher disputes. Settlements are intended to avoid future conflict without placing blame or guilt. Agreements are binding and enforceable by courts. Special eviction prevention program assists landlords and tenants before the court on eviction petitions. Provides consultation and training to schools for conflict resolution curriculum and peer mediation programs.
