The Sexual Assault and Crime Victims Assistance program, provides specialized services to sexual assault survivors, their families and friends, as well as crime victims.

Offers comprehensive crisis intervention for domestic violence, rape, sexual abuse, and other crime. Services include: safe confidential dwelling for domestic violence victims, short-term counseling, and 24-hr toll-free confidential hotline. Medical, legal advocacy and accompaniment as well as information and referrals.

* Assists victims of domestic violence, dating violence, sexual assault, stalking, and their children to attain a life free of violence. Safe, temporary shelter, advocacy, safety planning assistance, supportive counseling, survivors support group, children's group, and educational presentations. Assistance applying for financial assistance to help with medical bills, lost wages, and counseling expenses related to the crime through the Victim Compensation Claims Assistance. Helps victims navigate the legal system through Court Advocacy/Victim Assistance.

May be able to help crime victims (family members also may be eligible for help) with medical bills and counseling expenses; burial and funeral costs; lost wages; and other types of assistance. The OVS also funds a network of victim service providers across New York State. Forms for victims to fill out are available from the sheriff or police departments.Eligibility Requirements: Provides compensation benefits to innocent victims who sustained personal injury or their survivors in the case of homicide. Child victims, disabled victims, victims over the age of 60 and victims of certain crimes may be eligible for certain categories of compensation without sustaining injury.

Provides an online resource to help victims of crime get civil legal information and services, related to their housing, employment, and safety.

Provides victims with information, advocacy and community referrals.

This program provides assistance and support to those who have been victimized because of their disabilities as well as those who have become disabled as a result of the crime. Provides short-term counseling to crime victims with disabilities and information and referrals to appropriate local agencies. Develops and presents educational programming to community groups on victimization of people with disabilities. Assists in filing application claims with the New York State Crime Victims board.

Provides non-clinical advocacy and support to victims of domestic abuse, including crisis intervention, safety planning, transitional compensation information, emergency service coordination (housing, food, transportation) and protection order request assistance.

* Offers crisis counseling for all victims of domestic violence. Hotlines for victims, concerned family, friends, and the general community in domestic violence situations or know someone who is. * Offers a shelter for victims of domestic violence and their children. No maximum number of children that may be brought into the shelter; if number exceeds beds available, other arrangements will be made. If no beds available, other arrangements can be made. Can provide services for male victims of domestic violence and their children. Collect calls accepted. * Provides advocacy for out-of-county emergency shelter support. * Offers support groups for victims of domestic violence. * Offers Court Advocacy: Court accompaniment with on-site advocate at family court. The Senior Crime Victims Program provides assistance and support to older victims of crime: physical, sexual and emotional abuse, financial exploitation, fraud, neglect and abandonment. Develops and presents educational programming to community groups on senior crime issues, and provides information and referrals to appropriate local agencies. Assists in filing application claims with the New York State Crime Victims Compensation Board. Provides short term counseling, legal advocacy, and prevention and community education.

CVAC staff helps crime victims apply for victim's financial compensation from New York State Office of Victim Services. Guidelines for compensation explained and could include reimbursement of out-of-pocket expenses for medical treatment not covered by insurance, loss of earnings, counseling, transportation for court appearances, and burial expenses.

Provides crisis intervention, support, and information regarding medical, legal, or emotional aspects of crime or abuse, ways to assist a survivor, prevention information, and program services. Individuals are referred to a wide range of agencies who provide therapy, shelter care, legal, and financial information and assistance.
