Offers legal advocacy, short term counseling, accompaniment and advocacy, information and referrals, and assistance applying for crime victims compensation to primary and secondary victims of crime.

Provides a safety net for individuals who have no other way to pay for costs - including but not limited to medical bills, counseling expenses, burial and funeral costs, and lost wages - resulting from being victims of crime.

Provides prevention, intervention, and education services. Offers community, professional, and school-based education on domestic violence, sexual assault, child abuse, and dating violence. Provides advocacy, accompaniment, referrals, emergency shelter, crisis intervention, counseling, and emotional support to individuals experiencing domestic and/or sexual violence.

Provides an online resource to help victims of crime get civil legal information and services, related to their housing, employment, and safety.

The Sexual Assault and Crime Victims Assistance program, provides specialized services to sexual assault survivors, their families and friends, as well as crime victims.

Offers domestic violence and crime victim services, including a safe dwelling, a 24-hour hotline, crisis intervention, victims rights assistance, information on filing for compensation, transportation, and a cell phone program.

The Senior Crime Victims Program provides assistance and support to older victims of crime: physical, sexual and emotional abuse, financial exploitation, fraud, neglect and abandonment. Develops and presents educational programming to community groups on senior crime issues, and provides information and referrals to appropriate local agencies. Assists in filing application claims with the New York State Crime Victims Compensation Board. Provides short term counseling, legal advocacy, and prevention and community education.

* Provides compensation to innocent victims of crime. Funds direct services to crime victims via a network of community-based programs. Anyone who wants notification of an inmate release can use a touch-tone phone to get information about inmates in the Department's custody and register for notification of the offender's release, escape, death, and/or participation in a furlough or temporary release (work release) program. Notification will not be provided when an inmate transfers from one state Correctional Facility to a different state Correctional Facility.

Provides legal advocacy including information, referrals or accompaniment to: Family Court, Criminal Court, Domestic Violence Court, Sex Offense Court, Integrated Domestic Violence Court, police, probation department and District Attorney's office. Petitions and accompaniment for orders of protection. Also provides assistance to victims and family members who are entitled to compensation through the New York State Crime Victims Board. Provides referral, application process and support.

Crime Victim Assistance Program assists victims of crime with a variety of services and the filing of compensation claims with the New York State Office of Victims Services.

Offers services of professional registered nurses trained in the examination of survivors of rape/sexual assault. Provides immediate physical, emotional, and forensic care. Victims should report to emergency room at Good Samaritan Hospital in West Islip, Stony Brook Hospital in Stony Brook, Peconic Bay Medical Center in Riverhead, or to local police station and request sexual assault nurse examiner. Does not require police involvement.

Offers accompaniment services to court for rape victims in Mount Vernon and Yonkers, and to rape victims and homicide witnesses at county court in White Plains. Will also meet rape victims at area police department and emergency rooms.

Prosecutes all cases involving sexual assault, domestic violence, abuse of vulnerable persons and child abuse. The Bureau contains two specialized units: The Human Trafficking Unit and the Elder Abuse Unit. The Elder Abuse Unit investigates and prosecutes any crimes of physical violence against persons 65 years or older committed by family members or caregivers, whether in a facility or at home. The Unit is a part of the Nassau County Enhanced Multi-Disciplinary Team that works with Adult Protective Services, Nassau County Office for the Aging, and other agencies that collaborate to review allegations of suspected elder abuse, provide support and resources for victims and their families, and prosecute cases when appropriate. The Human Trafficking Unit is responsible for the investigation and prosecution of all Sex Trafficking charges and any prostitution-related crimes. It also handles cases pending in the Human Trafficking Intervention Court, where individuals charged with Prostitution and similar offenses are provided with assistance and services. The Human Trafficking Unit offers constant training to ADAs, members of law enforcement and the community in order to help identify these cases early and prevent trafficking within Nassau County. Services to all victims of crime including sexual assault and domestic violence. These services include crime victim board claims, court accompaniment, counseling and referral, crisis response to police, hospitals and support groups. Also provides community education to schools, law enforcement and civic groups. Staff or volunteers provide crisis response to hotline calls 24 hours per day, seven days a week.

A program designed to keep first-time juvenile offenders out of jail by obligating them to make amends for their crimes, and guiding them away from getting arrested.

Victim Assistance Program is often the first point of contact for victims seeking information, compensation, advocacy and emotional support related to their new and unwanted status as victims of crime. Advocates can immediately draw upon the resources of OVS for the purpose of delivering direct services, including referrals to all appropriate resources throughout New York, particularly other OVS funded victim assistance programs and the established network of crime victim service providers, compensation claims assistance (including emergency OVS compensation claims assistance), information, personal advocacy and follow-up contact through in person contact, telephone, mail, and e-mail.

A program from the Mental Health Association of Westchester which provides assistance in safety planning, calming victims in crisis, explaining court processes, provide emotional support, accompany clients to court, discuss options which may be available, and connect victims to shelters, medical services, counseling, financial assistance, legal services, and compensation/replacement services.

Provides trained legal advocates to accompany victims of domestic violence and sexual assault to court, to explain legal processes and to assist in obtaining orders of protection, visitation, custody and child support. Services available at the Riverhead, East Hampton and Southampton offices. Appointment required.
