MILITARY FAMILIES IN TRAINING (MFIT) | MILITARY FAMILIES IN TRAINING (MFIT)

Offers veterans and their families residing in Nassau or Suffolk County a six-week workshop focusing on issues military families commonly encounter. Provides participants with strategies to deal with the stress of deployment, combat and re-transition home along with information on the root causes of stress and substance abuse. Aims to enhance family empathy, clarify family boundaries, roles and responsibilities, foster communication and resiliency.

AID AND ATTENDANCE (A&A) PENSION | AID AND ATTENDANCE (A&A) PENSION

Offers a program for veterans and surviving spouses to defray costs of assisted living or supportive living services. Veterans and survivors who are eligible for a VA pension and require the aid and attendance of another person or are homebound, may be eligible for additional monetary payment. These benefits are paid in addition to monthly pension and they are not paid without eligibility to pension. Contact local Veterans Center for more information or check website.

Facilitates and coordinates leading medical research facilities which will be funded to work together to promote ways to help veterans and their families creates communities for the traumatically injured returning veterans in a supportive environment so they can buy their own affordable, well-built homes designed and built by veterans, especially for disabled veterans and their families provides vocational training as well as provides veterans assistance in helping establish their own business in order to help them re-integrate into society unifies veterans service organizations in order to effectively perform their missions in support of the National Disabled Veterans Business Council. This is accomplished by utilizing the print and broadcast media through the creation of television shows, films, documentaries, acquiring scripts, music and producing a concert series to entertain and make known to the public the issues related to returning from war.

OUTREACH RECOVERY CENTER-ADULT OUTPATIENT | OUTREACH RECOVERY CENTER-ADULT OUTPATIENT

Uses evidence-based, multi-phase models in individual and group counseling for outpatient substance abuse treatment. Services include individualized treatment plans, gender-specific groups, trauma-informed care, medical screenings, and psychiatric evaluations. Special Veteransâ Treatment track provides enhanced services including veteransâ support groups, case management, vocational services and recreational space for socialization, job search, and more, while addressing PTSD and other life stressors resulting from service in the military. Appointment required Monday through Friday. Walk-ins accepted on Saturday. Call during business hours for further information.

VETERANS AND SERVICE MEMBERS RIGHTS CLINIC | TOURO LAW CENTER

Provides free legal assistance to veterans and their families. The clinic gives priority to matters that will prevent or relieve homelessness or remove barriers to the reintegration of veterans into civilian life. Typical matters handled in the clinic include: Landlord-tenant/eviction; Debt relief/collection; Bankruptcy; Mortgage Foreclosure; Driver’s license restoration; Child support modification; Unemployment insurance; Warrants and fines; Income tax; Benefits applications and appeals and Discharge upgrades. All representation is free of charge and strictly confidential. Representation is provided by upper-level law students, working under the close supervision of experienced lawyers who are clinical professors. There is no charge for clinic representation. However, the clinics have limited resources and cannot take every case, no matter how deserving. Clinic staff members meet with potential clients by appointment only. Please do not visit the Law Center unless you have first contacted the Office of Clinical Programs at 631-761-7080 to see if you are eligible.

Comprehensive Outpatient Substance Use Disorder Treatment

VETERANS SERVICES | SAMARITAN DAYTOP VILLAGE

Provides three residential treatment facilities exclusively for veterans struggling with chemical dependency, post-traumatic stress disorder and other life challenges. They are located in Manhattan, Richmond Hill, Queens, and Ellenville NY. The Ellenville facility is dedicated to female veterans and offers gender-specific treatment at a safe and encouraging environment for women veterans. Also operates the Supportive Services for Veteran Families (SSVF) which provides community-based housing assistance and support services for at-risk veterans and their families. These services include temporary financial assistance, housing counseling, legal service referrals, daily living services, personal financial planning and transportation services.
