INFORMATION LINE | NEW YORK STATE OFFICE FOR PEOPLE WITH DEVELOPMENTAL DISABILITIES (OPWDD)

Helps people get answers to questions about supports and services for individuals with developmental disabilities in New York State. Also takes complaints of alleged misconduct, fraud, waste and abuse in the OPWDD service system. Requests for information will be referred to someone who will return the call. Representatives available in English and Spanish speaking or translation services available for other languages.

AUTISM CONSULTANT SERVICES/PARENT TRAINING/HOME ABA SERVICES | DEPARTMENT OF SPECIAL EDUCATION

Consultations and trainings are designed to assist staff to work effectively at sites with the most challenging students on the autism spectrum. These services are added to a District’s Commitment Form/student IEP when the service of a behavioral specialist or autism consultant is recommended by the CSE for implementation on a regular basis over a period of time. Autism consultants will address applied behavior analysis strategies, behavioral strategies, and educational strategies. Parent Training provides a bridge between home and school programs and can assist parents in utilizing strategies in the home that are consistent with those used in school to facilitate student progress. Home ABA Services are designed to meet the needs of component districts for students with autism spectrum disorders to provide for continuity and generalization. Methodologies include applied behavior analysis, discrete trial instruction, and task analysis. Progress is tracked and monitored to emphasize effective collaboration and consistency between home, school, and community.

MILL NECK INTERPRETER SERVICES | MILL NECK INTERPRETER SERVICES

Provides sign language interpreters for a wide variety of services including: doctor appointments, church, meetings, trainings, etc. Interpreters are to be provided free of charge to the person with the disability. SPEECH AND LANGUAGE SERVICES | ANDERSON CENTER FOR AUTISM

We offer IEP-based speech and language services including evaluations, individual and group therapy and consultation with treatment team members and family. Evaluations include full Augmentative Alternative Communication Evaluations to secure speech generating devices. We serve adult participants though our Article 16 Clinic. Speech-language services are designed to optimize an individuals, ability to communicate and swallow, theropy improving quality of life. SLPs develop and implement treatment to address the presenting symptoms or concerns of a communication problem or related functional issue, Our most common targets are receptive language, expressive language (verbal, SGD, PECS or sign) and pragmatic language skills. The ultimate goal of therapy is to improve and individual's functional outcomes. All services are provided NYS licensed speech-language pathologists who hold certification by the American Speech-Language hearing association.

CONTINUING DAY TREATMENT | CONTINUING DAY TREATMENT

Provides a long-term comprehensive and structured day program to mentally ill persons age 18 and older, who have a primary psychiatric diagnosis, are functioning or developmentally disabled, and/or have a drug or alcohol problem in addition to their mental illness, mentally ill chemical abusers (MICA). Provides a separate senior day program for older persons who are displaying behavioral and psychiatric difficulties. An individualized, therapeutic treatment plan is designed for each patient by the treating Psychiatrist and Inter-disciplinary Team. Patients attend from two to five days per week for 5 hours per day based on individual need. Length of stay varies from 3 months to one year. Screening interview is required. Available treatment include: Symptom Management, Medication Therapy and Education, Group Therapy, Rehabilitation Readiness Development, Activities Therapies, Health Screening and Referral. Also includes Case Management, Transportation, Crisis Services, Family Support and Education, Discharge Planning and Follow-Up Care.
