Offers a youth group that provides a safe place for discussions and various group activities.

Plans, coordinates and evaluates the activities of public, private and nonprofit agency services devoted to youth under age 21 within the town. To accomplish this, the Youth Bureau finds three community-based youth service agencies. They provide counseling, tutoring, mentoring, job readiness, after school program, leadership programs, volunteer activities, drop-in lounge, open gyms and summer day and evening programs. The Youth Bureau also oversees the Islip Town Runaway and Homeless Youth Programs. Room 312.

Encourages youth to establish a good work ethic through employment and workshops. Promotes punctuality, teamwork, how to follow rules and regulations, as well as respect of self, co-workers and supervisors. At- risk youth are selected between the ages of 14-18. Interviews are held in May and orientation in June. Employment is seven weeks, Monday-Friday. Worksites are established within the community at local churches, schools, agencies, parks and beaches. Workshops are given throughout the program in areas such as Banking, Job Attitudes, Career Goals, Job Interviewing and Resume Writing. Provides qualified students a six-week opportunity to experience work in hospital setting. Offers experience in various departments such as OR/ER, physical therapy, x-ray, recreational therapy and others. Participants assist with patient care.

A High-Risk Youth program offering HIV education, counseling and testing. Medical and psychosocial care for HIV-positive youth is coordinated with the Allergy/Immunology Division.

Provides residential services to developmentally disabled individuals who exhibit challenging behaviors. These homes are located on both the main campus in Smithtown and DDI's Huntington Campus. Children in residence attend Developmental Disabilities Institute Day School and then return to their residence where supervised recreation and daily living activities continue.

Offers summer art programs in which children work in a wide variety of media in a small-group setting. Provides appropriate grouping according to age, grade, skill and interest level. Provides opportunity for six teens with developmental disabilities to participate in existing Counselor In Training program at Great South Junior Travel Camp. Offers a supervision program for at-risk, pre-teen and youngsters under the age of 16. Focuses on establishing a discipline structure within the family with parenting skills offered. Supervised study group for at-risk juveniles failing subjects. Youth counselors function as parent advocate for juveniles needing services of the Justice and/or Mental Health System. Program is for parents and children together.

Offers parenting workshops, anger management, creative arts workshops, social skills program and junior and teen leadership opportunities. Program is open to all but targets those affected by divorce, separation, alcohol, drug abuse, violence. Staff include licensed social workers, family specialists, special ed teachers, child and youth care workers, performing artists, and trained facilitators. Approved for court mandated clients.
