SOCIAL SKILLS DEVELOPMENT WORKSHOPS | SUNSHINE PREVENTION CENTER FOR YOUTH AND FAMILIES

Offers workshop for children ages 5-8 and 9-12 (parents included). This program provides education and support to families. Topics include building healthy friendships, communication skills, understanding and expressing feelings, dealing with teasing and bullies, and more. Discussion groups, creative arts, games and hands-on activities are utilized to increase understanding and strengthen social skills. The Parent Component offers support and guidance to parents, and provides practical skills for helping their child in a variety of situations. The Parent Component meets at the same time the children's program runs.

SUNSHINE PREVENTION CENTER FOR YOUTH AND FAMILIES

Promotes the prevention of alcohol, drug abuse and violence through low cost educational and family support programs offered to the residents in the Town of Brookhaven and surrounding communities. Offers services to schools, organizations, youth and their families addressing self-esteem and social skills enhancement, alcohol and drug prevention, anger management,counseling, prevention workshops, treatment referrals and resources, parenting and relationship skills, and divorce and separation issues. Services are provided through peer support groups, parenting workshops, creative arts, summer programs, leadership-teen opportunities, holiday projects, educational workshops, outreach services, resources and referrals. Newsletter, Agency Brochure, Calendar of events are available. Speakers Bureau topics include prevention, self-esteem, child and youth care, family support and alcohol and drug issues.
