The BEST (Business and Employee Skills Training) Center at Genesee Community College offers a wide variety of programs designed to meet the evolving needs of the workforce and local businesses. These programs are primarily non-credit and focus on professional and workforce development, aiming to improve individual job skills and bolster organizational performance. Programs include technical, healthcare, business and professional development, computer and online training, driving, safety, Rural Police Training Academy, apprenticeship, and corporate customized training. The BEST Center focuses on providing high-quality, practical training to enhance individual job skills, prepare people for new careers, and support the economic growth of the Genesee, Livingston, Orleans, and Wyoming (GLOW) counties and beyond.

Provides AID/HIV/HEPC education to companies, organizations or groups to help dis-spell myths and to give the correct education, and what resources are available.

Provides employment and training services including job counseling, testing and assessment, resume preparation assistance, interview training and other pre-job guidance services, job matching and referral, labor market and career information; information on financial aid for education and training.

* Engages individuals and families affected by substance use disorders. Education, motivation, and support through IMPACT (Improving Addiction Coordination Team). Facilitates smooth transition to community service providers. Provides a re-accreditation program for professionals in substance/alcohol abuse counseling fields. Also offers a variety of other training programs for professionals. Trainings are OASAS (NYS Office of Alcoholism & Substance Abuse Services) approved for credit.

A two-fold program that provides education and public awareness to parents and others in the community, through various modes, about the legal ramifications and dangers of alcohol or drug abuse, and what services are available to help support them if they know adolescents who are involved with alcohol or drugs. And the second part is a strategy to reduce availability of alcohol to underage youth by training alcohol sellers and servers, along with the risk factors of drug availability in alcohol-serving establishments.

Educational programs for family members, health and social service professionals, and emergency personnel.

Provides training and legal assistance to attorneys defending veterans and service members in the family and criminal court systems with a treatment-oriented mitigation approach leading to family restoration and reintigration into society. Advises public defense attorneys representing veterans on military culture-mental health issues, and legal education training for public defense attorneys and gives presentations to bar associations, government agencies, and veterans organizations.

The education department provides in-service trainings to social service agencies and business. It provides epilepsy education to schools, teachers, nurses, administrators and camps. Training and literature is provided upon request. The Kids on the Block Program is part of our School Alert program, teaching its audience about seizures.

Provide "train the trainer" services to help social workers, case managers, aides and other professionals (1) to understand Migratory Mourning psychodynamics, stemming from feelings of loss and separation arising from living in a new country, and (2) to facilitate the process of bereavement so immigrant clients can fully contribute to the betterment of their lives, those of their families and the broader community.

Hosts annual conferences on trauma and children, publishes literature to inform professionals and the public, provides training and consultation in a host of related areas to similar organizations. The service is provided by the Sanctuary Institute, a training and consultation service, an evidence-based template for system change, based on the active creation and maintenance of a nonviolent, democratic therapeutic community in which staff and clients are empowered as key decision-makers to build a socially responsive, emotionally intelligent community that fosters growth and change.
