This service provides consulting technical assistance and grants writing services for not-for-profit and government agencies.

* Provides crisis intervention, client/situation stabilization services face-to-face to divert non-lethal individuals from the county's psychiatric emergency departments as well as to find, support and link individuals to mental health services. Some services include: Mental health assessments. Psychotropic medication assessment and interim management as appropriate. Mental hygiene arrests under Article 945. Critical Incident Stress Management - is an intervention protocol developed specifically for dealing with traumatic events. It is a recognized process for helping those involved in a critical incident to share their experiences, vent emotions, learn about stress reactions and symptoms and given referral for further help if required. Assists parents searching for child care with registration and enrollment for home-based child care and school age programs. Offers training and technical assistance for parents and providers.

Provides advocacy, referral services, daily living skills and mobility training, low vision exams, and education on available financial and living aid assistance.

* Provides career and technical education programs for juniors and seniors in nine component districts. * Provides educational programs serving students with disabilities in local districts and on the BOCES campus. Family involvement is strongly encouraged and paraprofessional support is ongoing.* Provides a Special Education Training and Resource Center that offers information related to the education of children with disabilities.* Offers alternative education for students with behavioral and/or emotional challenges that interfere with mainstream education.

Monitors regulatory compliance by service providers within the district. Provides technical assistance and training to consumer agencies, maintains medical records provides program evaluations as well as statistical and analytical reports, and provides oversight and technical assistance to agencies that offer services to developmentally disabled individuals in Nassau and Suffolk counties. Provides assistance to Child Care Providers by helping them develop their Health Care Plans that describe how they will meet the requirements and standards set by New York State with regards to health policies and medication. After preparation of the Health Care Plan, a site visit is made to ensure compliance with the plan and to verify administration in their program. Health Services is presently made up of two Registered Nurses (RNs) who are Health Care Consultants. Both are trained as Medication Administration Training (MAT) instructors and provide the 8 hour required program at Child Care Council of Nassau.The department actively develops, prepares and presents educational programs for child care providers, both at the Child Care Council of Nassau and at individual programs. The Health Care Consultants field many technical assistance phone calls and act as a source of information and guidance in caring for the health needs of all children in child care. Inspects and registers New York State Office of Children and Family Services family day care and school age child care programs. Provides technical assistance and ongoing monitoring of programs to ensure compliance with state regulations.

Instituted at request of school superintendents to develop surveys on specific subjects to aid districts in future planning.

Provides training, technical assistance mentoring and professional development to schools and educational agencies on behalf of children and young adults, ages 0-21, who are deaf-blind. Also offers networking, resources, information and referral as well as support for families and professionals working with the deaf-blind.

Programs that assess the needs of nonprofit organizations, and other similar groups and offer information, guidance and problem solving assistance regarding specific approaches that management and program staff can use to solve targeted problems and achieve stated goals and objectives.

* Provides consultation to school staff and organizations working with children and adults with disabilities or behavioral challenges. Topics include: Issues related to autism spectrum disorders, challenging behavior and daily living skills, school-wide positive behavior support.

* Tracks work exemptions for Temporary Assistance recipients who are unable to work for physical or psychological health reasons.

Provides educational resources, technical assistance and training to law-enforcement agencies or other professionals who work in the prevention, investigation, prosecution, and treatment of cases involving missing and exploited children.
