Provides one of the most vital units throughout the Sheriff’s office. Throughout the year, Community Relations Unit visits each Suffolk County School District as well as multiple clubs and various organizations. Its main goal is to bridge the gap between Law Enforcement and the members of the Community. CRU is responsible for implementing community outreach and school-based programs, organizing events, and promoting the Sheriff’s mission. An outreach program that focuses on the Latina community, and to help those who are victims of domestic violence to get the help and support they need, including follow-up services.

Enforces animal control measures needed to protect the health, safety, and welfare of Islip residents and, wherever possible, to promote animal welfare. The shelter houses stray and abandoned animals and makes every effort to have as many of those animals adopted as is possible.

Provides information in various formats, including online resources, about treatments, research, support. Also offers referrals available resources and services for individuals with spinal cord injury and their families.

ADRC plays an important role in educating Long Island’s caregivers. Both professional caregivers who work in assisted living facilities or nursing homes, and individual family members who have a loved one with Alzheimer’s, benefit from increased knowledge and practical training exercises.

Offers Long Island students in grades 4-8, who are in need of positive role models, supervised one-to-one and group mentoring relationships. Weekly one hour meetings allow time for mentors and students to interact, collaborate and socialize .

Provides information on a variety of pathological conditions whose occurrence is so rare that research regarding treatment has not been a priority, including information on what resources or services may be available, an online community, a newsletter and research papers.

Counselors offer individual counseling, facilitate survivor support groups, accompany victims to court, advocate for client needs and work with families to prepare for the transition to a violence-free home. Safety planning is conducted throughout the counseling process.

Provides a food pantry for Veterans, the Military and their families, and families in need. LI Cares hosts Military Appreciation Tuesdays in Huntington Station, Lindenhurst, and Freeport which gives veterans and their families access to food, personal care items, household products, pet food, and school supplies. Also veterans are provided with information and resources pertaining to veteran special benefits. LI Cares also operates a Mobile Pantry which delivers nutritious groceries to homebound, disabled veterans unable to access their local pantries.

As a service of the Children's Bureau (U.S. Department of Health and Human Services), access to print, electronic publications, websites, and online databases covering a wide range of topics from prevention to permanency is made available, including child welfare, child abuse and neglect, out-of-home care, adoption, and other child-related issues.

The Advocates can talk with civic, social, religious, professional or other groups at their local meetings. There's no cost to schedule a presentation. Also provides information, depending on the season, on cooling centers, heat stress and tips on how to save on your energy bills, as in winter keeping the house from losing heat, safety tips, managing the thermostat, and more.

Provides information and referrals to the various mental health services and resources in the county, including access to numerous videos, written material, and research on mental health topics.

Provides speakers to promote health and wellness seminars and workshops, including disease-specific information through various sources, online, printed materials, etc.

Offers education and public awareness about AIDS/HIV and sexually transmitted disease, designed specifically for teenagers and young adults, also give information and referrals to resources such as HIV testing and counseling.

MICHC will provide education, outreach, home visitation, referrals and follow-up to improve the general health and well-being of women and infants, with a focus on family planning and self-sufficiency. The program will engage women and link families to health and other supportive services in the targeted communities of Newburgh, Middletown and Port Jervis.
