A 7-week educational program for persons convicted of driving while intoxicated or impaired. Course content focuses on defensive driving, alcohol and substance abuse education, and where appropriate, referral for evaluation and treatment. The program seeks to provide early intervention by identifying individuals with problems and by educating participants of the impact of driving under the influence. Participants are enrolled in the program through the New York State DMV.
* Provides outpatient alcohol and substance abuse treatment services. Services include: Evaluation, often same day, and assessment, Group and individual therapy, Medication Assisted Treatment, LGBTQIA+ & Allies Support Group. * Offers DWI evaluations.

Provides a seven week education program to educate drivers who have been convicted of a DUI or DWI on the effects and consequences of impaired driving. The program is voluntary, but also meets requirements if court ordered.
* Operates a program aiming to prevent impaired driving in a model that includes: arresting those who drive while under the influence of alcohol; swift adjudication of individual cases; certain and severe punishment for those convicted; and publicity for the arrest and prosecution efforts. Includes the following activities:
  • DWI Victim Impact Panels - Victims/survivors speak to DWI offenders every six to eight weeks.
  • Law Enforcement - Selective enforcement units patrol at peak hours in high-risk areas.
  • Prosecution - Special prosecution unit in the Oneida County District Attorney's Office handles all DWI cases.
  • Probation - Officers within the Oneida County Probation Department are responsible for coordinating all DWI cases.
  • Evaluation and Treatment - Evaluates and treats offenders convicted of DWI and related offenses.
  • Community Awareness and Education - Community awareness and education presentations for all interested groups, including elementary, high school, and college age level groups and all other community organizations.
  • Additional administrative programs to prevent intoxicated driving.

Provides education to participation to further examine the reasoning beyond their arrest and looks at social, medical, legal, and driver safety problems caused by alcohol and other drugs. Consists of 16 hours of classroom activities, with lectures, films, group discussions, and self evaluation over a 7-week period.
Introduces victim's point of view to convicted DWI offenders. When victim's statements are told in person, from the heart, in neither blaming or accusatory way, it may enable offender, perhaps for first time, to consider the pain and suffering drinking can cause others; seeks to help offender move beyond focusing on their own "bad luck"; may serve as first step in breaking down denial of offender's mind which may replay when drinking and driving is again an option; may change behavior and save lives.

Offers a court mandated, seven-week educational program that covers many aspects of the traffic system and drinking and driving with weekly classroom sessions. Program covers driver safety, alcohol and drugs as an impairment factor on driving performance, and alcohol and drug use and abuse. Classes offered in Bath, Corning and Hornell.
Legislated in NYS as a response to injuries and deaths caused by drunk drivers. Provides a general deterrence approach with four major components. Enforcement - includes 13 local police departments, sheriffs and state police. Adjudication - includes public defenders, prosecution and magistrates. Rehabilitation - includes an alcohol abuse counselor and a probation officer. Education - includes many programs geared to raising public awareness with a particular focus on students in local schools. The program is entirely funded through drunk driving fines received through town, village, city and county courts. No Yates County tax dollars are involved.

An outpatient treatment center offering: assessments, psychiatric evaluations, medication management and ancillary withdrawal (suboxone induction & maintenance) along with outpatient individual and group treatment services for adults, young adults/adolescents and significant others/family members. Offers a Victim Impact Panel run by the Suffolk County Probation Department in conjunction with the Mothers Against Drunk Drivers (MADD). The DUI Victim Impact Panel Program is an awareness program for offenders convicted of misdemeanor driving under the influence of alcohol or other drugs. The panels consist of a non-confrontational presentation consisting of crime victims telling their own personal stories of how impaired drivers forever changed their lives. The panel presents a unique perspective to the offender that is often overlooked or simply cannot be taught by the courts and the DUI offender schools. Provides outpatient substance abuse services for individuals suffering from alcohol or drug related problems and their family members. Individual and family assessments, referrals for detox, and other treatments are available. Offers short and long term treatment groups, cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) group, individual and family therapy. Also offers intensive outpatient treatment with medical enhancement available, and an opiate recovery program that includes suboxone treatment. Women's Services are provided through ongoing early intervention, case management, vocational placement services, HIV assessment, counseling, and linkage to ECMC AIDS Services. Expanded culturally sensitive services are available for African American populations, Hispanic populations, gay and lesbian populations, older adults/seniors, and others. Outpatient services are offered for individuals arrested for DWI offenses, with both short and long term intervention and treatment groups. Involvement of families is encouraged with treatment services provided through the Downtown Clinic at the same location. Length of program is 3-9 months. Offers persons aged 18 and older with alcohol or other substance abuse issues, structured group services and activities emphasizing the building of life skills to enable each client to become self-sufficient members of the community. Specialized programs are offered for individuals with DUI/DWI offenses. Licensed by the New York State Office of Alcoholism and Substance Abuse Services (NYS OASAS).

The Victim Impact Panel is a program that serves the entire community by providing a monthly forum on the painful consequences of drunk/drugged driving from people whose lives have been forever changed by an impaired driver. People convicted of DWI and DWAI are mandated by the courts to attend VIP with the aim of reducing recidivism. The program is available in English and Spanish. There is also educational component available for those offenders who are under 21 years of age.
