COMMUNITY RESIDENCE PROGRAM - DIX HILLS | WELLLIFE - DIX HILLS

Offers an eight bed 24/7 supervised group home for adolescent girls and boys (ages 12-18), diagnosed as seriously and emotionally disturbed. Provides a therapeutic living environment to promote youth's highest level of social and emotional functioning. Our goal is for the youth and families alike to recover, reunite and work on transitioning the youth back into their homes and communities. Average length of stay is between 12-18 months.

Supported housing is permanent housing. The supported housing program has sites throughout Brookhaven and Riverhead consisting of 2 and 3 bedroom houses within 1/2 mile from shopping, banking and public transportation. Provides case management services with the housing. Also provides the security of permanent housing, the flexibility of independent housing and the support of OMH and HUD funded housing in one program.

Provides telephone calls to community members who are homebound or physically isolated who are suffering from psychological or emotional problems or who require a support system. Also provides therapist referrals and a referral service.

Assists in questions on mental health issues including: Symptoms of mental health conditions, Treatment options, Local support groups and services, Education programs, Helping family members get treatment, Programs to help find jobs, Legal issues (the NAMI Legal Resource Service can connect individuals with attorneys in their area but does not have the resources to provide individual representation). NOTE: This helpline does not provide counseling or therapy, specific recommendations for things like treatment or do individual casework, legal representations or other individual advocacy. Crisis calls, such as suicide ideation calls, are transferred to a national crisis line to provide further assistance.

VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES | RESPONSE CRISIS CENTER

Volunteers needed as telephone crisis counselors for agency's 24-hour hotline and the support line which provides telephone visits to homebound individuals. Training in crisis intervention communication skills provided, consisting of 24 hours classroom hours and 24 hours hands on training in conjunction with an experienced hotline counselor. Shifts are available 24 hours per day, 7 days per week. Request commitment of one 4 hour shift per week for a minimum of 6 months. College-age and adults.
