Provides a supportive, psycho-educational, skill development-based therapy group for parents and guardians of children of all ages who witnessed, experienced, or are at risk for various types of abuse (physical, emotional, sexual), in order to reduce the parents and guardians distress related to the child abuse experience, and to increase the parents and guardians protective abilities through increased knowledge about abuse and the impact of trauma, and the development and practice of parenting skills. This group serves families in which children have been identified as at risk for abuse and neglect, and for whom court-ordered parenting education has been recommended.

Provides support to men who are new or expectant fathers, as well as those needing to complete court-mandated parenting classes. Our free services to men include evidence-based, Broome County Family Court approved parenting classes, a one-on-one mentoring program, material resources, a supplemental "Doctor Dad" educational program for fathers, and an "Alternatives to Domestic Violence" program for men who have an assessed need.

An education and awareness program for separated and/or divorced parents and significant others who want to reduce conflict and parent effectively for their children. Topics covered include the impact of separation/divorce on children, cooperative and parallel approaches to co-parenting, legal issues related to custody and/or access, alternatives to litigation, and methods of communication and problem-solving. Sessions are scheduled based on groups' needs and availability.

Parenting education workshop for parents who are referred by the courts, other agencies, as well as self-referred parents who are not involved with the courts. Challenges such as substance abuse, mental health, custody and domestic violence are a few of the reasons parents attend the program. Several groups run at the same time and parents are placed in groups according to the age of their children. Workshop meets 3 hours once a week for 8 weeks.

Provides parenting classes for parents enrolled in Dutchess County Family Treatment Court.
Therapeutic Supervised Parent/Child Access: Supervised visitation service for divorced, never married, or separated families referred by Family Court which provides a safe, secure, and healing environment for children to visit with their non-custodial parent. Typically, these are families that have no allegations and/or history of mental illness, abuse, alcohol or chemical dependency, low parent skill, or a risk of abduction, and where the court has determined that supervision is required through the County. Monitored Exchange: A neutral drop-off and pick-up service for divorced or separated parents which allows children to have safe transitions for scheduled access time, provided in situations where safe child access to a parent is jeopardized because of existing orders of protection and/or high parental conflict. Social workers who conduct the exchanges assist parents to reduce conflict and improve communication and problem-solving. OKPEAP: Program offered to divorced or separated parents. Topics covered include the impact of divorce and separation on children, cooperative and parallel approaches to co-parenting, legal issues related to custody and/or access, alternatives to litigation, methods of communiction, and problem-solving. Therapeutic Supervised Visitation: Assists children and their natural parents toward the goal of permanency and family reunification by providing a secure and nurturing environment where children can have contact with their parent. Three levels of supervision offered, including therapeutic, supportive, and step-out community visitation.

Provides emergency assistance to individuals with an urgent need for food, personal care items, medication, or other assistance due to an unforeseen emergency; food vouchers provided. Works with clients on budgeting to prevent future emergencies. Provides group for separated/divorced parents and significant others who want to reduce conflict and effectively parent their children. Provides domestic violence classes for men whose participation is court ordered. These classes provide information on the impact of men's abuse of power on family members; men's violence against women in society and how to end it; the historical, societal and cultural aspects of domestic abuse, oppression, racism, and sexism; and community efforts to stop domestic violence at the local and national level. Also provides friendly phone calls for older adults in Genesee County.
