The program matches caring volunteers from the community with clients and encourages them to develop a one-to-one relationship based on friendship and support. Compeer staff make weekly contacts with their match using text, phone, email, etc. 2-3 hours of face-to-face contact in a month in which they do some sort of activity and weekly check-in phone calls.

Offers virtual support groups for children with type 1 diabetes and their families. These groups, led by our team of pediatric diabetes experts, help children, their siblings, and parents manage the condition, and any social and emotional adjustments that may occur. Kindred Spirits engages parents and caregivers of children who have type 1 diabetes in an educational discussion with guest speakers. Participants share stories and challenges while receiving emotional support from their peers. Additional programs offered include: Kids Interested in Diabetes which teaches children 5-10 and their siblings about type 1 diabetes through games and activities; Dia-besties helps children ages 10-13 positively cope with managing type 1 diabetes; and an In-person teen group for teenagers ages 13-18 with type 1 diabetes.
