There are a number of organizations focused on raising the dollars needed to fund cutting-edge research, and to find treatments and a cure for ALS.The goal of MAC Angels Foundation is to complement these efforts, by filling the "survivorship" gap for ALS families in need. The mission of MAC Angels Foundation is to enhance the quality of life for patients, family members and caregivers impacted daily by ALS, by providing the compassion, education and unique resources needed to manage the devastating effects of this disease. A parent-staffed disability and health information center that works with families of children who have disabilities and special health care needs. Provides information, support and matches parents experiencing challenges with other parents who have similar experiences. Helps families to access and coordinate resources and community services.

Provides information for individuals looking for long term care resources, services and options within the county, such as home-based services, nursing homes, adult homes, adult day programs, companionship, etc.

Provides Home and Community-Based Services (HCBS) and Community Oriented Recovery and Empowerment (CORE) Services for adults. These services are for adults, for Health and Recovery Plan (HARP) eligible enrollees who are Medicaid beneficiaries with behavioral health needs within New York State’s Behavioral Health System. These individuals are diagnosed with a serious mental illness and/or substance use disorders.

Offers peer support, benefits advisement and linkages to community resources for individuals with mental illness.

A national support and self help group for adults and children who stutter. Provide parent/child support groups, referral services, workshops and conventions, and also publishes a bimonthly newsletter, Reaching Out.

Provides home and community based services (like planned respite and pre vocational supports) to children who have a serious emotional disturbance (SED) diagnosis.

Provides support and information to families with special needs children. Also matches parents, by request, with a trained support parent who has a child with a similar disability, chronic illness, or health care concern to help with parenting issues. This helps to build a support network and connect to tools and resources in the community. Also offers speakers to educate health care professionals, teachers, and others who care for children with special needs.

Provides professionals to address issues and interaction and peer counseling within the group. Group meets the 3rd Tuesday of every month at 1:30pm. Call for schedule/information.

Offers pediatric support groups including: Hope for Hearts, a support group for parents and siblings of children with congenital heart defects Our Little Heroes/Oncology Parent Support Network, offering mutual support and guidance for families of children with cancer. Offers mental health peer support, benefits, information and referrals.

Provides counseling for adults with any type of disability, including connecting them with other with the same disability, where ideas, concerns and life experiences can be shared. Also assists with assistive technology information, what devices might be good to increase or enhance independence.

Provides care for children with chronic asthma and allergy problems. Services include: Consultations with Pediatric Pulmonologists and Allergist Immunologists skilled nursing care history and physical exam pulmonary function studies allergy testing laboratory services pharmacy services and an asthma support group.

The program matches caring volunteers from the community with clients and encourages them to develop a one-to-one relationship based on friendship and support. Compeer staff make weekly contacts with their match using text, phone, email, etc. 2-3 hours of face-to-face contact in a month in which they do some sort of activity and weekly check-in phone calls.

Offers a social and semi-support group for gay men who are parents. Meetings are hosted at members' homes. Call for further information.

Provides free individual and group counseling and mutual support groups for parents of children in the North Shore communities. Includes Discipline is Not a Dirty Word for parents with children in Kindergarten-6th grade. Call for an appointment. Contract agency of the Brookhaven Town Youth Bureau.

Offers virtual support groups for children with type 1 diabetes and their families. These groups, led by our team of pediatric diabetes experts, help children, their siblings, and parents manage the condition, and any social and emotional adjustments that may occur. Kindred Spirits engages parents and caregivers of children who have type 1 diabetes in an educational discussion with guest speakers. Participants share stories and challenges while receiving emotional support from their peers. Additional programs offered include: Kids Interested in Diabetes which teaches children 5-10 and their siblings about type 1 diabetes through games and activities; Dia-besties helps children ages 10-13 positively cope with managing type 1 diabetes; and an In-person teen group for teenagers ages 13-18 with type 1 diabetes. Provides clinical services to individuals with disabilities and their families including treatment coordination during the eligibility process and while accessing additional agency services; advocacy with other agencies when additional services are needed; psychological services including assessments and therapy; social work; nursing services; nutrition services and rehabilitation counseling. Program offers services, assistance, information, advocacy and referral for those needing help navigating special education services, community habilitation, pre-vocational and employment programs, independent living skills and peer-to-peer support.

Provides the following: information on the relationship of food additives on a person's behavior, learning and health, dietary program for the attention deficit, autistic, pervasive developmental delay and chemically sensitive individual and written materials that help determine and avoid salicylates in foods, medications and other areas. Offers a forum for past and present recipients of mental health services to meet and help organize, design and advocate in various ways to change public policy, systems and legislation for mental health-related causes.
