Provides a school-based program aimed at assisting youth, ages 14-17, to complete the National Work Readiness Credential and participate in an eight week paid internship. Offers workshops geared toward wellness, work readiness and employment seeking strategies. Program held at South Country, Wyandanch, Brentwood, Central Islip School Districts high schools. Offers a number of programs designed to meet the needs of children with developmental disabilities and their caregivers. Services include: - Respite Services: Offers planned short-term and time-limited opportunities for families and care providers to have some personal time. - Employment Services: Helps adults and youth to obtain and retain competitive employment through vocational counseling, employment training programs, work experience acquisition, soft skills development, rehabilitation services, and support services to help youth obtain, maintain, or advance in competitive employment or self-employment. - Children's Health Homes/Care Management: Includes care coordination, comprehensive transitional care, individual and family support, and referral to community and social support services as needed. - Community Habilitation: Assists youth living at home with a loved one or independently in the community to maintain or develop the highest level of independence possible for them. - Community Based Day Habilitation: Promotes community inclusion and integration. - Family Reimbursement Program: Covers expenses for goods and services needed to care for a loved one with a developmental disability who lives at home. - Self-Directed Services: Enables individuals to make choices about their staff, supports, and services. - Preventive Services: Provides support to help families learn the necessary skills to ensure their children remain at home and out of foster care placement. - Behavioral Health Services: Includes community habilitation, caregiver/family supports and services, pre-vocational services, and supported employment. - Project C.O.A.C.H.: Provides telephone counseling, referral, outreach, and intervention/prevention for individuals and families.

A year round service that works as a liaison between Amherst residents who need assistance with extra jobs in or around their home and Amherst youth ages 12-20 who are interested in working with these residents. Teens fill out an application indicating what kind of work they are willing to do. Residents call to make a request for assistance, detailing the kind of work they need done. A teen participant is then contacted about the job possibility and given the details of the job and the contact information for the resident. The teen contacts the resident to discuss the date/time of the job. Due to safety concerns, requests for work involving climbing ladders, roof work, carrying heavy/large objects up or down stairs, or anything that would require driving are not honored. Work opportunities available include: raking, shoveling, mowing, weeding, gardening, tutoring, errand running, pet care, child care, assisting elderly/disabled, computer tutoring, basement/garage cleaning, help with parties, and light housework.
