Resource Center located on the East Side of Buffalo. Operates several unique programs that improve the lives of those who live and own businesses in the MLK District. The Better Schools Better Neighborhoods (BSBN) Collaborative is comprised of businesses, institutions, faith-based organizations, block clubs, schools, property owners, and residents that live or work in the Martin Luther King, Jr. Park area. Its primary goal is to create a family-friendly neighborhood where everyone loves to live, work, and raise their families for generations. The MRC Block Club Development program provides training sessions to community members who want to create their own local block clubs and neighborhood watch programs, along with computer literacy classes. The Small Business Development Program helps build long-term success by providing small local businesses with case management, advocacy, guidance, and assistance with funding applications. MRC offers the following free services open for public use: - Wi-Fi - Copy and fax services - Computer lab - Community telephone to make and receive calls - Meeting space with projector and screen for individuals or groups to plan workshops, training, and meetings - Job board (updated daily) - Bulletin board and space to leave leaflets and flyers about community business and programs Staff provide the following assistance: - Food pantry referrals - Assistance for Buffalo Public School parents with advocating for their children in schools and navigating the programs and resources available in the district - Block Club Assistance: Community members can register new block clubs and have flyers made for their club events - Assistance for local businesses with getting facade renovations done on their properties through the Better Buffalo Fund

Seeks to promote job searches, job referrals, and supportive services to divert applicants from the need of ongoing cash assistance. Provides an intensive assessment to help identify potential barriers to self-sufficiency and assist families to overcome these barriers, job readiness training and other employment-related services such as resume writing, interviewing skills and techniques, and supportive services to assist in maintaining/retaining employment. If cost effective, employment-related supportive services such as car repairs or insurance, transportation assistance, work clothes, etc. can be approved by DSS on a case-by-case basis.

Offers help in emergencies with such basic needs as food, prescriptions, housing, and heat. Offers a parenting program for divorced or separated parents. When funding is available, provides FEMA assistance for one month of rent or mortgage payments as long as the tenant or owner can demonstrate the ability to make future payments on their own; funding currently unavailable. Utility assistance is not available through these funds.

Provides the services of a Certified Low Vision Optometrist for individuals with decreasing vision. A low vision evaluation differs from the routine eye exam provided by an ophthalmologist in that it works with patients to maximize their remaining functional vision through the use of optical devices. This may include special lenses, magnifiers, telescopes, lighting, and/or glare reduction. When an individual is experiencing difficulty with tasks or things they enjoy doing due to vision loss, a low vision evaluation may be beneficial.

Serves the unemployed and underemployed community of Erie County through our STEPS Program Initiative. We identify employment opportunities from local employers and match them with skilled workers. Serves the educational and training needs of the community through college prep services and FAFSA submission assistance.

Offers easy access to the following employer services: job postings, candidate listings, information (referrals, permits, legal, etc.), economic development referrals, pre-hire testing (fee for service), recruitment, screening, job fairs, and business seminars. Also offers coordinated referrals and access to over 50 certified training programs throughout Chautauqua County and surrounding areas. Offers specialized services for youth under the age of 24. Youth summer employment opportunities may be available, depending upon funding. Program assists job seekers to succeed in the job market by providing guidance to improve job readiness skills, resume writing, and job search strategies. Also provides career guidance and one-on-one consulting.

Offers a range of vocational rehabilitation services that assist clients with mental illness to select, obtain, and maintain preferred competitive employment positions in the community. Programs include: - Supported Employment: Assistance with selecting, obtaining, and maintaining a competitive job with on-the-job and off-the-job support. - Rapid Employment/Job Placement: Assistance with finding a competitive job in the community. - Ticket to Work (TTW): Very flexible employment services designed to meet individual employment needs. Allows clients to choose from a range of services listed in other programs. Typically individuals in the Ticket to Work program have a work history and desire to work approximately 25+ hours/week with the goal to eventually be off of entitlement benefits (SSI/SSDI). - Peer Specialist Program at Leroy Manor: Designed to provide outreach and peer support to individuals with mental health conditions in a residential setting. Other services include Job Search, Placement, and Support, Resume and Cover Letter Development, Interview Preparation and Practice, Skills Development, Work Readiness Classes, and Benefits Advisement. Also provides Peer Bridger support services for individuals who are coming out of Rochester Psychiatric Center or other Article 28 hospitals as well as individuals diagnosed with a mental health condition that are residing in the community. These services help individuals link to and engage with needed resources/supports. Peer Bridger services are unique in that they are one-on-one services meeting with a peer support professional to work on goal setting, budgeting, accessing community supports, and other services/information. ##REENTRY##

Facility has a 226-seat theater, banquet hall, gymnasium, locker room, multi-purpose rooms, commercial kitchen, library, and computer training lab. Thrift store accepts donations of good condition household items, furniture, books, DVDs, CDs, collectibles, current educational materials, craft and hobby items, musical instruments, antiques, small and large appliances, and workplace apparel. Pick up available for donations of large household items and furniture. Employment services include resume and job search assistance, job skills training, and on-the-job work experience. Also offers free access to computers and internet for job searching activities. Educational services include high school equivalency preparation credit recovery. Also provides budgeting assistance, income/expense scheduling, and fax and copy services.
