Safe Start is committed to promoting the safety of all occupants riding in motor vehicles and reducing the number of children riding unrestrained. The Safe Start program conducts educational workshops for the public. Safe Start's permanent fitting stations located in Nassau and Suffolk Counties can provide families with the opportunity to have their safety seats inspected by certified technicians ensuring correct installation. EAC's Safe Start van provides staff with the tools needed to operate a mobile fitting station while promoting efforts to ensure that children are safely strapped in.

Provides new and gently used baby and children's clothing (newborn to children's size 14), and when available, provides strollers, car seats, pop-up cribs, highchairs, educational toys, and books. (Does not provide diapers, formula, financial assistance, or furniture other than what is already specified above.) Expectant parents may be served when they are within 60 days of their due date. Clients may be served twice a year: once in spring/summer and once in fall/winter.

A new car seat is provided by the Putnam County Sheriff’s Department, after Putnam CAP’s assessment of the family’s financial need. The seat will be professionally installed by the Sheriff’s Department.
Provides women and their families with items for a newborn and children up to 3 years old. The community baby shower includes items such as shoes, books, clothing, bottles, car seats, etc. Donations accepted.

Provides safety education to parents on child passenger safety issues regarding car seats, booster seats, and seat belts. Provides one of the most vital units throughout the Sheriff’s office. Throughout the year, Community Relations Unit visits each Suffolk County School District as well as multiple clubs and various organizations. Its main goal is to bridge the gap between Law Enforcement and the members of the Community. CRU is responsible for implementing community outreach and school-based programs, organizing events, and promoting the Sheriff’s mission. The unit offers an array of Community and School-based programs free of charge for all Suffolk County schools, businesses, organizations, non-profits and agencies. Assists low income families and others to access the correct seat for their child at every age. Car seats are made available for free to parents and legal guardians of children from birth until the child is ready to ride safely without a seat. Booster seats for older children are available. Assistance is meant to be one-time only.
* Collects donations of baby items and clothing for moms and babies and redistributes them to social service agencies and church outreach programs that work with parents and children who need them most in the Rochester community. Items collected include the following:Baby Supplies (formula, diapers, wipes, baby bath, bottles). Personal Hygiene Items (soap, shampoo, toothpaste, deodorant). Feminine Products and adult diapers. Cleaning Supplies (All-purpose, bleach, dishwashing liquid, laundry detergent, sponges). Monetary Donations.
