Offers high school students a non-credit, state-certified Driver and Traffic Safety Education program. Those who successfully complete the course will receive the MV-285 Student Certificate Completion issued by the NYS Department of Motor Vehicles. The MV-285 allows students with a NYS Junior Permit to schedule a road test, receive their senior license at the age of 17 instead of 18, and may be eligible for a rate reduction in their automobile insurance. This program consists of 25.5 hours of classroom instruction and 25.5 hours of behind the wheel training and observation. Effective July 1, this course will be offered in-person, on the Ammerman Campus in Selden. Please note that XDT100 and XDT200 are corequisites and must be taken together and successfully completed to obtain the MV-285. These Defensive Driving courses are approved by the NYS Department of Motor Vehicles as a course provider under the Point and Insurance Reduction Program (PIRP). Drivers may be eligible to reduce as many as 4 points on your driving record. Principal owners of a vehicle until receive a miminimum of 10% reduction in the base rate of your auto or motor cycle liability and collision insurance premiums for 3 years. Bicycling rules, safety equipment, bike maintenance and selecting the right bike are just a few of the topics covered in our important bicycle-safety program. This half-hour presentation is great for riders of all ages, but it is especially helpful to young people who are just becoming familiar with the rules of the road and safe-bicycling practices

A program that brings the Victim Impact Panel model into local high schools as part of the studentâs application for a parking permit to allow students to drive to school. The program mandates that both the student and a parent attend this modified VIP which includes victims of substance related crashes as well as representatives from the District Attorneyâs Office, the insurance industry and the medical community. Parents and students gain an understanding of the serious legal, medical, insurance and emotional costs resulting from drinking, drugging and driving. Families are asked to create a driving contract.
