Environmental Health Division - Chautauqua County Health Department

Conducts property transfer surveys which includes bacteriological water analysis and testing of on-site waste water treatment systems. Regulates all public water supplies as defined by Part 5 of the NYS Sanitary Code. Oversees cooling tower registry and reviews water testing results. Investigates special issues including rabies, radon, nuisance complaints, smoking in public, emergencies related to Public Health, West Nile Virus/Eastern Equine Encephalitis, mosquito vector surveillance, and control measures as warranted. Provides free rabies clinics for dogs, cats and domesticated ferrets in various locations throughout the year. Call or go online to find locations and register. Responsible for food service establishment permitting, education, and inspection. Oversees permitting and enforces the NYS Sanitary Code for Bathing Beaches, Children Camps, Swimming Pools, Temporary Residences, Tanning Salons, and Tattoo and Piercing Parlors. Investigates and oversees the abatement of lead-based paint hazards in dwellings where children under 6 years of age resides.

ARTHROPOD-BORNE DISEASE PROGRAM | SUFFOLK COUNTY DEPARTMENT OF HEALTH SERVICES - PUBLIC HEALTH

Tests for Arthropod-Borne diseases in order to obtain a more accurate picture of the true incidence and distribution in the County. The program augments public education efforts to encourage tick-borne disease identification and reporting. Educating the public on personal protective measures for tick-borne and mosquito-borne diseases is an ongoing process. Provides information to the public on Mosquitoes and Mosquito-Borne Diseases, Ticks and Tick-Borne Diseases and Bed Bugs.

HEALTHY NEIGHBORHOODS PROGRAM - BCHD | BROOME COUNTY HEALTH DEPARTMENT

A free program dedicated to improving the quality of life for Broome County residents by reducing exposure to health and safety risks in the home. The program includes a free in-home safety assessment along with product demonstrations and free safety supplies. The program helps to identify and address concerns around indoor air quality, lead-based paint, fire hazards, slips/trips/fall prevention, pest control, and other potential hazards. There are no income requirements. This is not an enforcement program.

GEESEPEACE | TOWN OF HEMPSTEAD DEPARTMENT OF CONSERVATION AND WATERWAYS

Hempstead Town will once again be working in cooperation with the non-profit organization GeesePeace to help control the rapidly increasing Canada Geese population in the area. Residents are encouraged to contact us if they have a problem with the birds on their property. A biologist will respond to address the concern. Because the GeesePeace program runs in concert with the Canada Goose nesting and molting seasons, it is important that residents inform the town about their problem with Canada Geese during this specific time frame. Egg-oiling will take place from April 1st to May 15th and nuisance abatement will occur from mid-May until mid-September. Although these are the best times to address the issue, the town will respond to concerns throughout the year.

Rapidly identifies and isolates a rabid animal and prevent further transmission to humans or other animals. In addition the Bureau helps to prevent the spread of arthropod-borne diseases including viral encephalitis, malaria, and tick-borne diseases including, Rocky Mountain Spotted Fever, Babesiosis, Ehrlichiosis, Lyme disease and Tularemia. Surveillance is conducted to determine the presence of various species and prevalence of these pathogens in our arthropod population and investigate health threats of arthropod-borne diseases to Suffolk County residents. Responsible for septic systems, inspections and permit issuance, drinking water testing, public health hazards and nuisances, clean indoor air enforcement, onsite wastewater treatment system regulation, rabies investigations and vaccinations, insect control, West Nile Virus surveillance. Rabies vaccinations: Conducts free rabies vaccination clinics for dogs, cats and domesticated ferrets in several locations across Cattaraugus County. All Cattaraugus County residents are eligible for these free vaccinations. Notices will be posted on the Cattaraugus County website, through radio, newspaper ads, fliers on community boards around the County.
