Offers a variety of classes for Adults (21 and over). The District offers ENL (English as a New Language) Classes in Conversational English, Listening/Speaking and Communication Skills, Grammar, Vocabulary, and Writing. These classes are offered at different levels to suit needs within the community. The District also offers a General Educational Development preparation program to Adults (21 and over). The purpose of the High School Equivalency preparation program is to provide an opportunity for "out of school" adults to develop the skills and understanding necessary to perform satisfactorily on the General Educational Development (TASC) Test. At the Central Islip Adult Education Program, a number of classes are offered to contribute to your medical education or to help you start your medical career. Central Islip Adult Education in cooperation with the Lighthouse Resource Center, Inc. is pleased to present the following National Certification Medical Career(s): EKG Technician- CET (Electrocardiography); Phlebotomy Technician - CPT; Medical Insurance: Billing & Coding; C.P.R. Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation Training; Medical Assistant (CMA); Medical Administrative Assistant. Services include: testing, computerized assessment (including self-assessment), workshops, personal development seminars concerning job search techniques, resume preparation and the modern workplace, career counseling, basic education programs including basic skills re-dedication, ESL and GED preparation, institutional skills training and college certificate programs, skills development seminars for Introduction to Computers, Keyboarding, Microsoft Word, and Excel. In addition to helping adult students prepare for the TASC exam and earn their High School Equivalency Diploma, the Adult and Community Education Department offers Adult Basic Education classes for students to improve their reading, writing, and math skills. Students work at their own pace with the help of a certified teacher. Career Counseling and Case Management is available to all students and classes are open to individuals 17 years of age or older regardless of residency. English as an Alternate Language and Citizenship programming are also offered at the main building and at an addendum site in the morning and evening.
