CTE Center - Olean - Cattaraugus-Allegany BOCES

New York State Education Department Approved Career and Technical Education (CTE) programs are designed to provide a career pathway for students while satisfying many of the requirements for a Regents High School Diploma. Students learn, reinforce, and apply academic skills such as ELA, Math, and Science in the context of their CTE program while they prepare for further study at the post-secondary level or direct entry into the workforce after high school. Students participate in internships and may earn valuable industry certifications and/or licenses. The curriculum is assessed against nationally recognized industry standards and meets the NYS Learning Standards. Evening and day courses also offered for adults.

SPECIAL CAREER EDUCATION | ISLIP CAREER CENTER

Serves students with disabilities from the component school districts. This program provides a self-contained learning environment with modifications as determined by the Committees on Special Education (i.e., 12-1-1 and 8-1-1). The Gary D. Bixhorn Technical Center, the Islip Career Center and Harry B. Ward Technical Center serve high school students who are 15.5 (15 years and 6 months) of age by September 1st until the age of 21. Special Career Education (SCE) creates opportunities for all students by providing them with the technical and academic skills needed to prepare for future employment and a successful path to college or other post-secondary programs. SCE provides technical training to prepare students for a successful career. The structured training gives students the tools needed to be successful in a job after high school and/or further post-secondary education. Each student is encouraged to explore various areas of study and to develop the essential skills to feel competent in entering today's competitive job market, while helping them to learn how to cope with their disabilities in the workplace. COSMETOLOGY | JOSEPH M. BARRY CAREER & TECHNICAL EDUCATION CENTER

Offers a Cosmetology Certification Program where you will learn from top professionals and experience expos and demonstrations in some of the best salons on Long Island. Become versed on the latest styles and techniques used today while also learning the necessary techniques for the New York State Certification exam. Brush up on the vast array of beauty products and their chemistry. Learn professional skills such as customer service and communication pertaining to any salon environment. Upon completion of 1,000 hours of training you are eligible to apply for New York State Licensing. Meet with counselors in our Employment Center to discuss job opportunities. Also offered is the Cosmetology Completion Hours Certification Program for those students looking to complete your 1,000 hours for certification and Cosmetology Refresher Course for those students who have completed the 1000 hours and are looking for preparation for the NYS Exam. Support services for districts include itinerant teachers and specialists, such as adaptive physical education instructors, speech therapists, psychologists, social workers, physical therapists, counselors, and occupational therapists for those districts that cannot afford a full-time position. DENTAL ASSISTANT | JOSEPH M. BARRY CAREER & TECHNICAL EDUCATION CENTER

Offers a course in Dental Assisting. Train to become an important part of a professional dental office. Learn the necessary skills to work with a dental team to provide patients with an excellent experience. Prepare to assist with all dental procedures including four-handed dentistry, tray set-ups, infection control and sterilization techniques. Study dental anatomy, oral cancer detection, radiology, and the uses of instruments and equipment. In addition, participate in an externship program and gain administrative and communication skills to make a dental office run smoothly. Upon completion, you will be ready to work in all types of dental offices. Additional courses in CPR and OSHA-10 are offered. Offers students the opportunity to launch a satisfying career in skin care and make-up at Western Suffolk BOCES, a fully accredited Esthetics program on Long Island. This 600-hour, full-time Esthetics program is located at the Western Suffolk BOCES Northport campus. Those who satisfactorily complete this Esthetics program are eligible to take the New York State exam that leads to a license in Esthetics. Your NYS Esthetics license will help you find job opportunities with flexible hours, financial stability and job satisfaction in Nassau County, Suffolk County, and New York City. Students enjoy practicing on classmates and clinic clients as they study anatomy and physiology, bacteriology, sterilization, structure and function of the skin, facial procedures, use of various machines, waxing, basic make-up techniques, and business practices. Successful completion of the Esthetics program at Western Suffolk BOCES prepares you to sit for the New York State Esthetics licensing exam and includes 30-hour Laser Hair Removal certification. Students will learn the skills necessary to successfully pass the Radiologic Technology Registry Exam. This nationally recognized certification from the ARRT demonstrates that you have the knowledge necessary to work anywhere in the United States. Through the Radiologic Technology program at Western Suffolk BOCES, you will receive training in modern diagnostic radiography. Students receive instruction in fully equipped classrooms and laboratories at our Northport Campus by our highly trained and experienced faculty. Hands-on clinical training takes place at medical centers, hospitals and outpatient imaging centers.
