The Clinic defends clients in need of motions to reopen prior removal orders, facing false gang allegations, seeking release on bond, and victims of trafficking seeking relief. The clinic provides legal screenings for relief, responds to ICE raids, represents clients detained in ICE jails, litigates in immigration court (such as master calendar, bond, and individual hearings), administrative advocacy with USCIS and at asylum interviews, and appellate litigation before the Board of Immigration Appeals and in Federal Court. These include Landlord-Tenant, Section 8 and subsidized housing matters, preparation of Powers of Attorney/Health Care Proxies/Living Wills, Medicaid applications and Pooled Trust applications. The SCLP also provides representation at Medicaid Fair hearings, in Town Zoning Violations matters, and in Small Claims Court cases. Representation is provided by upper-level law students, working under the close supervision of experienced lawyers who are clinical professors. There is no charge for clinic representation.
