Established the student internship program to assist students in furthering their education and experience in the field of criminal justice. The Suffolk County Police Department offers this unique opportunity for students to observe the functions and operations of the department. The Suffolk County Police Department has a proud history of dedication, bravery, integrity, equality and respect. These qualities will be demonstrated throughout this program. The goal of the program is to expose selected students to a wide variety of commands within our department. The student will experience how these respective commands interact in order to provide efficient and effective police services within our communities. The Suffolk County Police Internship Program will give each student a representative sampling of the comprehensive training that every police recruit must complete before they can transition to patrol duty. Interns will be assigned to their local precinct to observe the different commands of the precinct. Interns will also be assigned to Special Patrol and various commands in Police Headquarters. As the Internship comes to an end, each individual will have a better understanding of the duties and responsibilities of a police officer. With this understanding, it is desired that students will recognize the challenges facing law enforcement personnel. Call for more detailed information.

Is a goal-orientated program for individuals between the ages of 14 to 20, who are interested in pursuing law enforcement as a possible career path. Although the Police Explorers is described as a "learning for life" program, it also serves as a volunteer public service program. Each of the seven SCPD Precincts maintains an Explorer Post where participants are taught criminal law, and police procedures and tactics. They also engage in community outreach events and many other law enforcement activities. Police Officer Advisors help guide Explorers by teaching them valuable life skills and giving them insight into the daily life of a Police Officer. Exploring is not a boot camp. We are looking for young individuals with a genuine desire to make a difference in the community in a positive way and learn about law enforcement while doing so. The purpose of this is to ensure a positive learning environment centered on the education of interested parties. Call for more detailed information.
