Provides services to assist adults ages 18 years and older who, because of physical or mental impairments, can no longer provide for their basic needs for food, clothing shelter or medical care, or protect themselves from neglect, abuse or hazardous situations, and have no one willing and/or able to help in a responsible manner.

Also coordinates after-hours homeless emergencies in St. Lawrence County. For emergency homelessness, please contact the county Sheriff's department at 315-379-2222.

Offers tips for seniors and their loved ones to avoid fraud and abuse. Speakers are available to educate the public about issues like consumer frauds, senior scams, internet safety, civil and labor rights.Please report suspected neglect or abuse of nursing home residents to the NYS Department of Health Nursing Home Complaint hotline 888-201-4563 and to the Attorney General's Office at 800-771-7755. Suspected abuse can also be reported online through a form.

**THIS AGENCY HAS DISCONTINUED SERVICES AS OF MARCH 14, 2025** The Community Education Department helps the professional community be more effective in working with clients of all ages who are victims of rape and sexual assault, domestic and dating violence, and child abuse and neglect. The staff is available to perform onsite trainings for mental health practitioners, substance abuse counselors, youth workers, educators, health practitioners, and those whose work may intersect the victims of family violence and rape and sexual assault. Seminars on mandated reporting of child abuse include: how to work with domestic violence victims; general and advanced overviews of trauma; prevention of dating abuse and sexual assault for middle, high school and college students; and elder abuse. Works with community members and parents on issues such as preventing sexual abuse of children, preventing dating abuse, and to prevent and respond to domestic abuse and rape and sexual assault.

This program is a psycho-educational 26 week course for men who batter. They are taught what the cycle of violence is, the impact on the family, and are helped to identify non-violent alternatives to their abusive behavior. Domestic Abuse Awareness Classes for Men (DAAC) accepts referrals for service from the courts, the Department of Social Services, substance abuse treatment programs and other counseling agencies.
