Advocates for the rights and concerns of seniors who are residents of local nursing or assisted living facilities, or adult homes, when they or their families are concerned about situations or issues which have arisen while in their care.

Investigates complaints, reports findings, and mediates for individuals who are receiving long-term care in nursing homes or other adult care facilities who are having problems with services or staff, and have been ignored by the facility management.

Provides specially trained volunteers (ombudsman) who work to resolve complaints on behalf of residents of long-term care facilities, assist in the protection of their rights, assist family members, encourage participation in resident councils, and establish good working relations with the facility's administration and staff. Volunteers make regular visits to assigned facilities and are available to residents and family members who have questions or concerns. Volunteers are professionally supervised, and trained.

The Ombudsman Program is an effective advocate and resource for older adults and persons with disabilities who live in nursing homes, assisted living and other licensed adult care homes. Advocates for residents by investigating and resolving complaints made by or on behalf of residents; promoting the development of resident and family councils; and informing government agencies, providers and the general public about issues and concerns impacting residents of long-term care facilities.
