Rent, mortgage and utility bill assistance for people that are less than 3 months behind. This is a last resort so they must have gone to other agencies and been denied assistance for them to qualify for this program. Email or letter of denial from the other agencies ie) DSS, Catholic Charities is required.For utility bills there must be an attempt at a payment plan and a denial or could not keep up due to financial hardship.This can also help with either first months rent or security deposit.

Provides affordable home ownership opportunities to families who fall below moderate income levels and are unable to obtain conventional mortgage financing. Eligible applicants can receive up to $20,000 in mortgage assistance.

Offers help in emergencies with such basic needs as food, prescriptions, housing, and heat. When funding is available, provides FEMA assistance for one month of rent or mortgage payments as long as the tenant or owner can demonstrate the ability to make future payments on their own; funding currently unavailable. Utility assistance is not available through these funds. Also offers a parenting program.

Provides on-site emergency food pantry for residents of specific streets in Niagara Falls (call for details) and information on meal planning and budgeting. Also distributes food donations (separate from pantry services) three days per week; first come, first served. Items and quantities vary each week according to donations received, and are given out until they're gone. Provides back rent, mortgage, and utility payment assistance to low income residents of Niagara Falls when funds are available; funds are available as of August 2024. Fair Housing Advocacy Program assists individuals who feel they are victims of discrimination when purchasing or renting a home. Provides information, assessment, and referral to the appropriate federal, state, or local human rights agency or court. Housing location services and landlord/tenant advocacy also provided. Individual advocacy, information and referral, application assistance, case management, asset management, and budget counseling available. Baby Needs Program meets the emergency needs of infants and very young children by providing them with a supply of diapers, infant formula, baby food, and baby care products. Federal emergency assistance program provides limited financial aid for rent, mortgage or utility emergencies. One-time emergency grants made during funding period usually beginning in March until funds are exhausted for calendar year. Contact HWCLI's referral line at (516) 559-4450. Program administered by the Health and Welfare Council of Long Island for the bi-county region. EFSP is Federally funded but the Long Island Region is not guaranteed funding. The Federal Government determines specific time-frames annually for the program to operate, so EFSP is not active a full 12 months of the year. Additionally, funded agencies may run out of funds at any time during the program period. Please call for current service availability.

Gives families and individuals the opportunity to buy, build, or repair affordable homes located in rural areas. Eligibility for these loans, loan guarantees, and grants is based on income and varies according to the average median income for each area.

Provides information workshops with regard to foreclosure prevention and one-on-one counseling for borrowers in foreclosure. Offers assistance in payments of mortgage, utility, property tax and water service. Services include negotionation with lenders, services for loan modifications, budget counseling, and legal services may be provided.

Eligibility is determined by several factors including income, resources, and willingness to comply with Agency regulations and requirements. Also will assist individuals with "once only" emergency needs if eligible (i.e. prevent an eviction; prevent a utility shut-off; emergency car repair/car insurance to prevent the loss of employment; etc).
