Provides specialized, individually planned and structured Next Generation standards-based education. Career and Technical Education experiences to promote the specific skills and career-based training needed for the world of work and to support academic classes. Integration of the Career Development and Occupational Studies standards (CDOS) into the classroom and community-based or service learning activities help students to see the relevance of the course work. Career assessment and Level One interviews as well as transition planning interface with school-to-work learning. Related internship experiences and part-time jobs can provide students with participation in the community. Our commitment to a safe and nurturing environment allows students to access these opportunities based on their individual needs. Our program offers students’ academic and employability skills with social growth opportunities and real world connections, helping prepare them for the challenges of the future. This multifaceted academic program at Islip Academic Center is available to secondary special education and non-classified "at-risk" students with severe behavioral concerns and limited anger management skills. The Islip Academic Center offers both a 6-1-1 modified departmentalized program and an 8-1-1 departmentalized program based on the New York State Regents Curriculum. All students receive weekly counseling at least one time individually and one time in a group setting to address social skills and behavior management needs.

We offer IEP-based Occupational and Physical Therapy services including evaluations, individual and group therapy and consultation with treatment team members and family. We serve adult participants though our Article 16 Clinic. Occupational therapy services promote functional abilities and engagement in daily routines. Occupational therapists may asses an individual's ability to perform ADL's and develop adaptions in order for the participant to be successful and the MOST independent in eating, dressing, grooming, toileting and hygiene. OT services also focus on sensory integration, play/leisure skills, gross and fine motor skills, prevocational /vocational skills, social interaction skills and psychosocial issues. Physical Therapy services provide support for students so they may more fully participate in the curriculum and the school day routine. services focus on the impact the the physical disability has on classroom performance rather than on the disability itself. Physical Therapists work on addressing balance, gait, motor planning, posture, navigating and accessing school environment, strength, and endurance.

Offers a residential program for children with autism spectrum disorder ,and/or multiple disabilities to include autism that incorporates Applied Behavioral Analysis teaching methods and positive behavior supports. Programming focuses on life skills recreation and leisure skills, household living; with opportunities for participation in Special Olympics Events. Housing placement is based on age and level of functioning. Family outings day and home visits are encouraged.

Provides an inpatient psychiatry program for elementary-age students enabling them to continue their education while undergoing psychiatric treatment. Students are referred through parent or school referrals and admits youngsters, after thorough evaluation by social worker, psychologists and physicians. The length of stay ranges from 1-12 weeks, during which time a full academic curriculum is provided by Eastern Suffolk BOCES.

Offers programs to middle school students ages 11-14 in grades 6th to 8th. The Prevocational Program services students with various developmental disabilities. The primary goal of the program is to maximize each student's potential and to teach skills that will enable them to become as independent as possible within the confines of his/her disability. Program components include academics with an emphasis on functional skill development, as well as simulated work activities to apply newly acquired knowledge. Behavior management, independent living, and social skills are also addressed. Where needed, discrete trial teaching and applied behavioral analysis is utilized in conjunction with grade level curriculum. Functional assessments of behavior intervention plans are implemented for support when needed. The Secondary Developmental Program services students with various developmental disabilities. The primary goal of the program is to maximize each student's potential and to teach skills that will enable them to become as independent as possible within the confines of his/her disability. Program components include improving cognition with an emphasis on sensory motor skills development. Functional assessments of behavior and behavior intervention plans are put in place for support when needed. The 12:1:4 Program emphasizes a multi-sensory approach to learning. Emphasis is placed on improving cognition, sensory motor skills development and use of adaptive equipment to aid movement and independence. Students placed in the 12:1:4 class component are dependent upon staff for meeting their needs throughout the school day. Classroom instruction is provided with hand over hand assistance. Related services of speech, occupational therapy and physical therapy are provided on a group push-in basis. All students are assessed using the New York State Alternate Assessment. The Academic Center Middle School Program services students with learning and behavioral disabilities. The primary goal of the program is to maximize each student's potential. Program components include instruction that is comprised of the general education curriculum and which supports the Common Core State Standards. Behavior management, self-advocacy and social skills are addressed. A building-wide behavior management plan is an integral part of the program. Functional assessments and behavior intervention plans are implemented for support when needed. Programs are offered at various locations.

Offers a Half Day and Inclusion Program.Older preschoolers and elementary school children attend an all day session (9am-2:30pm). A therapeutic recreation program is also offered (2:30pm-4:30pm). We offer IEP-based speech and language services including evaluations, individual and group therapy and consultation with treatment team members and family. Evaluations include full Augmentative Alternative Communication Evaluations to secure speech generating devices. We serve adult participants though our Article 16 Clinic. Speech-language services are designed to optimize an individuals, ability to communicate and swallow, theropy improving quality of life. SLPs develop and implement treatment to address the presenting symptoms or concerns of a communication problem or related functional issue, Our most common targets are receptive language, expressive language (verbal, SGD, PECS or sign) and pragmatic language skills. The ultimate goal of therapy is to improve and individual's functional outcomes. All services are provided NYS licensed speech-language pathologists who hold certification by the American Speech-Language hearing association.
