The Food Allergy Center is a comprehensive center for children with food allergies. Skin and CAP RAST testing, along with double blind, placebo controlled food challenges, are performed to identify allergy triggers. Offers a supervision program for at-risk, pre-teen and youngsters under the age of 16. Focuses on establishing a discipline structure within the family with parenting skills offered. Supervised study group for at-risk juveniles failing subjects. Youth counselors function as parent advocate for juveniles needing services of the Justice and/or Mental Health System. Program is for parents and children together.

Provides assessment and age appropriate support group placement for children and young adults and for adults experiencing grief and loss. Also offers crisis intervention and counseling. Offers child care for children from 8 weeks to 5 years. The center is nationally accredited by the National Academy of Early Childhood Programs. The Center is open Monday through Friday, 6:30 a.m. - 6:00 p.m., with various shifts available, and serves University, Health Sciences and Medical Center faculty staff and students as well as non-affiliated community families. Affiliated families pay tuition according to a sliding scale based on gross family income. The Center is staffed by full-time professionals, assisted by part-time support staff and University students enrolled in the Psychology 488 Internship. Under the supervision of our staff, these carefully selected students work closely with the teachers in the classroom and attend weekly training. One of the ways we support a low child to adult ratio is to invite students who have completed these courses with high marks to work as part time support staff. The child-teacher ratio in the 3-5 year old program is 7 to 1; and the Infant-Toddler program is 4 to 1. Our primary aim is to provide a warm, supportive and creative atmosphere. Each room is "family-grouped", enabling children to interact with others of different ages. Since children at this stage of their development "learn by doing," there are plenty of hands-on activities that at times build a child’s self-reliance. Children bring their own lunch. We provide nutritionally sound snacks in the morning and afternoon, that the children help to prepare. Our staff foster a positive, non-sexist, non-violent and non-authoritarian, multi-cultural environment. Children are encouraged to express their feelings and needs verbally and to respect those of others. We also help children build positive self-images. Certain inherited diseases occur more frequently in a given ethnic or racial group than in the general population. The Jewish Genetic Disease Program provides education, genetic screening, genetic counseling and clinical services for individuals or families commonly affected by these diseases. Fanconi Anemia (Type C), Tay-Sachs Disease, Canavan Diseases, Niemann-Pick Disease, Bloom Syndrome,Mucolipodosis (Type lV), Gaucher Disease (Type l), Familial Dysautonomia and Cystic Fibrosis are among the many genetic diseases that have been tested.

Provides educational programs within the community and schools within the Town of Southold via the D.A.R.E. (Drug Abuse Resistance Education) Program and other programs that explore the law and responsibility in an attempt to prevent crime. Educates youth in various safety areas (for example bicycle, babysitting, etc.).

Provides opportunity in the Fall for children ages 4-6 to meet and learn about a different farm animal in four one-hour sessions. The children will learn about the harvest and preparing for winter on the farm. In the Spring, each child will hold and feed baby animals and grow plants for their garden.
