Coronavirus Update: Beginning March 17th, 2020, transactions at the Cortland County Board of Elections shall be completed via telephone, e-mail or postal mail.In the event that an in-person transaction is necessary, an appointment will be required, as well the completion of a screening questionnaire prior to the actual interview.Basic forms such as voter registration forms and the application for an absentee ballot are available on the website. They are also outside our office entrance.Only registered voters can vote in general or primary elections. To register, individuals must: be a United States citizen be 18 years old by the date of the election be a resident of the county for at least 30 days before the election not be in jail or on parole for a felony conviction not claim the right to vote elsewhereTo register: call to request postage-paid mail-in voter registration application be sent to the individual pick up an application at local post offices, libraries or motor vehicle offices get a voter registration form and in-person assistance at many public agencies register in person at the Board of Elections officeFederal law allows individuals needing help due to disabilities or inability to read the ballot, to have a friend or relative help the voter in the voting booth.
