Offers a wide range of licensing, records, and informational services to town residents. Licensing and permits include marriage licenses, hunting/fishing/trapping licenses, disabled parking permits, dog licenses, block party permits. Other services include maintaining town records and archives as well as preparing and collecting property taxes for residents of the Town of Colton.

Acts as a general information center by assisting the public and county government with the filing, handling, and preserving of public records. Services include passports, pistol permits, notaries public, veterans' discharge papers, oaths of office, uniform commercial code department, assumed name certificates, court records, and maps. Also files corporation certificates.

Program ensures that rich, viable agricultural soils and farmland properties within Suffolk County will be preserved permanently for farming use. Administers programs that encourages active farms to continue agricultural production by affording certain benefits to active farms under New York State’s right-to-farm laws. Responsible for providing Geographic Information System (GIS) and cartographic assistance to the staff of the Department of Economic Development and Planning and to other County agencies. The unit also provides GIS and cartographic assistance to local towns, villages and other public agencies within Suffolk County. This assistance involves creating and sharing map-based information about topics including land use, demographics, development, land preservation, natural resources, farmland, and aquaculture.
