Utilizes grants and donations to assist families by paying for medical supplies, equipment and other support services not funded by other means

Maintains a closet of of donated mobility-related equipment, such as wheelchairs, walkers, canes, etc. These items are loaned, free of charge, to members of the community on request.

Provides a Loan Closet with durable medical equipment, communication devices, wheelchairs, and other similar equipment, for anyone with a muscular disease. Also helps with payment assistance for repairs of assisitive equipment. Accepts donations of medical equipment which apply to those who with muscular diseases, especially communication devices and wheelchairs, and large durable medical equipment.

Assistance with eye exams and/or glasses and treatment.

TRAID (Technology Related Assistance for Individuals with Disabilities) Center shows how technology-from simple homemade gadgets to computer systems-can make people more independent. We have items on display for people to try, we offer demonstrations of equipment, and can tell people how to get what they need. STIC also offers short-term loan of equipment and assistive technology including: wheelchairs, TTYs, walkers, tub seats, commodes, portable ramps, and much more. Some items may be given away if we have an excess.

* Collects donations of baby items and clothing for moms and babies and redistributes them to social service agencies and church outreach programs that work with parents and children who need them most in the Rochester community. Items collected include the following:Baby Supplies (formula, diapers, wipes, baby bath, bottles). Personal Hygiene Items (soap, shampoo, toothpaste, deodorant). Feminine Products and adult diapers. Cleaning Supplies (All-purpose, bleach, dishwashing liquid, laundry detergent, sponges). Monetary Donations.

* Offers community services for the visually and hearing impaired. Guide dogs. Sight preservation and restoration. Eye exams, glasses for pre-schoolers in the town. Referrals for hearing aids.* Accepts food donations for Irondequoit cupboard.* Collects used glasses for use in deprived countries. * Offers scholarships for high school seniors.

Provides free loans of assistive technology. Assistive technology is any device that can be used to improve the functional abilities of people with disabilities or short-term injuries. Available items include wheelchairs, walkers, Rollators, canes, crutches, ramps, grab bars, Hoyer lifts, adaptive seating, shower chairs, commodes, wander alarms, weighted items, adaptive utensils, laptops, iPads and deaf and blind/low vision technology. We also have learning aids, toys and games for early intervention, as well as pediatric equipment. Free delivery may be available.

Provides a loan closet of mobility equipment such as wheelchairs, crutches, canes, and walkers to local residents, free of charge. Also accepts donations of clean and in good condition medical mobility equipment.

Lends medical equipment such as walkers, wheelchairs, commodes, canes and shower chairs at no cost to Town of Brookhaven residents. Donations are accepted and greatly appreciated. AT (Assistive Technology) is an item, piece of equipment, or product system used to increase, maintain, or improve functional capabilities of individual with disabilities. Loan closet includes wide range of items, devices and equipment, such as: large-handle eating utensils, handheld video magnifier, electronic magnifying glass, computer mouse controlled by head movement.

Provides donated furniture, clothing, medical equipment, and household items for Veterans and their families.

Screen pre-school children for vision problems.Budget for 15-20 children/year. Current public assistance recipients must first contact his/her case worker. Lions' program most often provides glasses to senior citizens or children of low-income working parents who do not have Medicaid or vision insurance.

Wonderful Wheelchairs, fiscally sponsored by Lifelong, is staffed by volunteers, and cleans, repairs, and sells used wheelchairs, walkers, and power mobility devices at very reasonable prices to those who need them.To contact Wonderful Wheelchairs: [email protected] or call 607-444-2817.
