The focus of the content is on how to develop, practice, and maintain emergency plans that reflect what must be done before, during, and after a disaster to protect people and their property. Also included is information on how to assemble a disaster supplies kit that contains food, water, and other supplies in sufficient quantity for individuals and their families to survive following a disaster in the event they must rely on their own resources.

Provides leadership to effectively prepare for, respond to, and recover from a wide array of public health emergencies. Information is available to help individuals prepare for varying types of emergencies including weather, natural disaster, and disease outbreaks. Primary responsibilities include: - Developing and integrating all-hazards public health response plans; - Educating the public and training the county response partners in: Integrated Shelter Support, Isolation and Quarantine, Mass Fatality, Mass Vaccination and Mass Prophylaxis, Medical Surge, and Strategic National Stockpile Plan; - Conducting drills and exercises to test plans; - Recruiting, training, and deploying Erie County's Public Health Emergency Response Team and the Specialized Medical Assistance Response Team (SMART).

Responsible for the development and implementation of a comprehensive state strategy to prevent, detect, respond to and recover from acts of terrorism. It oversees and coordinates the collaborative counterterrorism efforts of critical state agencies, departments, and authorities and works with local government and the private sector. It serves as the primary point of contact for all state homeland security activity with the United States Department of Homeland Security and related federal agencies. The State Office of Homeland Security works to provide the greatest possible security for New York State.

Provides education and support to the Suffolk County Emergency Medical Services (EMS) agencies, and coordinates the components of the Emergency Medical Services system. Every year the division attempts to increase emergency preparedness efforts, coordinated educational offerings with quality improvement efforts, expanded educational opportunities, and continued to focus on EMS system quality improvement in conjunction with the Regional Emergency Medical Services Council (REMSCO). Is a volunteer program, originally part of Civil Defense, to protect the residents of the United States during, before and after attack by enemy forces. The main mission is to mitigate against, prepare for, respond to, and recover from an emergency. The Auxiliary Police Section is comprised of over 30 community based units. Each unit is made up of dedicated volunteers who: Prevent & deter criminal activity by routine patrols in marked Auxiliary Police vehicles; Ensure the safety of our fellow residents during various community events; Manage traffic at parades and special events such as the LI Marathon, fireworks displays, holiday ceremonies as well as other community events & festivities and Provide assistance and support services during disasters and other emergencies. Our auxiliary police officers must attend and complete a 150 hour / 38 session basic training course which is taught by state certified instructors at the Nassau County Police Academy.
