Actively involved in all phases of preparedness for natural and man-made disasters. Coordinates drills conducted with local fire and police departments and other emergency responding agencies. In time of emergency integrates response with federal, state and local agencies. Maintains a Townwide Communications Center which is the hub of Emergency Operations Center (EOC) in time of emergency. Operates the Auxiliary Police Unit.

This Office prepares for and responds to public health emergencies. It works closely with the Medical Reserve Corps, and with County, State and regional agencies to coordinate responses to disasters.

Primary responsibilities include: - Developing and integrating all-hazards public health response plans; - Educating the public and training the county response partners in: Integrated Shelter Support, Isolation and Quarantine, Mass Fatality, Mass Vaccination and Mass Prophylaxis, Medical Surge, and Strategic National Stockpile Plan; - Conducting drills and exercises to test plans; - Recruiting, training, and deploying Erie County's Public Health Emergency Response Team and the Specialized Medical Assistance Response Team (SMART).
