The Office of the Flood Insurance Advocate advocates for the fair treatment of policyholders and property owners by providing education and guidance on all aspects of the National Flood Insurance Program. If your have utilized existing resources (insurance agent, National Flood Insurance Program (NFIP) insurance company and/or the NFIP Help Center) and are still frustrated and confused, request assistance from the Office of the Flood Insurance Advocate on the issue you have been unable to resolve. Active surveillance for unusual outbreaks; provides information on personal and family preparedness; education on severe weather events; practices mass vaccination clinics; volunteer medical reserve corps. Provides medical countermeasures.

Offers a volunteer program whose primary mission is to enhance community safety by mitigating risks, preparing for emergencies, responding effectively to crises, and aiding in recovery efforts. The Auxiliary Police Section is comprised of over 30 community based units. Each unit is made up of dedicated volunteers who: Prevent & deter criminal activity by routine patrols in marked Auxiliary Police vehicles; Ensure the safety of our fellow residents during various community events; Manage traffic at parades and special events such as the LI Marathon, fireworks displays, holiday ceremonies as well as other community events & festivities and Provide assistance and support services during disasters and other emergencies. Our auxiliary police officers must attend and complete a 150 hour / 38 session basic training course which is taught by state certified instructors at the Nassau County Police Academy. Provides assistance to customers who have medical conditions requiring electrically operated medical devices or equipment to prepare for power outages. Also assists those with vision, hearing or speech impairments or disabilities. Qualifying Support Equipment: Dialysis machine, Apnea monitor, Oxygen concentrator, Respirator, Ventilator, Pressure breathing device, Infusion feeding pump.

Provides first response to a disaster or emergency situation where both personal and property damage has occurred, through search and rescue, mass shelters, providing food and water, and more. Also assists companies and organization prepare by public awareness and management organization.

Saves lives, mitigates property loss, and improves economic efficiency by issuing the best watches, warnings, forecasts and analyses of hazardous tropical weather, and by increasing understanding of these hazards.

Provides education and support to the Suffolk County Emergency Medical Services (EMS) agencies, and coordinates the components of the Emergency Medical Services system. Every year the division attempts to increase emergency preparedness efforts, coordinated educational offerings with quality improvement efforts, expanded educational opportunities, and continued to focus on EMS system quality improvement in conjunction with the Regional Emergency Medical Services Council (REMSCO). Extensive planning efforts have been undertaken to ensure that our public health staff and the community's first responders are fully prepared for any type of emergency that has the potential to impact the health of the public.

Assists local governments, volunteer organizations and private industry through a variety of emergency management programs. These programs include hazard identification, loss prevention and training, operation response to emergencies, technical support, disaster recovery assistance, and in times of an emergency/disaster, will coordinate the response of all State agencies, ensuring the most appropriate resources are dispatched to the impacted area.
