Provides professional engineering services and administrative work in the development and maintenance of town facilities. Principal responsibilities are determining and establishing technical and administrative policies and procedures for the development, analysis and evaluation of engineering projects within the town.

The Yonkers Department of Housing and Buildings (DHB) is responsible for safeguarding the health, safety and welfare of Yonkers residents, business and property owners in the area of housing and building code enforcement. We issue building permits and certificates of occupancy, conduct inspections and investigate complaints regarding housing and building construction.

Provides detailed environmental analysis of all proposed projects and makes specific recommendations to the Town Board. Develops and implements environmental improvement and protection projects including erosion control, wildlife habitat improvement, drainage projects, shellfish seeding programs, woodland restoration, and public awareness programs on the need for recycling.

The Development Department consists of the combination of four existing departments under one umbrella. These divisions consist of the: Building Division, Engineering Division, Planning Division, Zoning Division.

Processes land development applications including zoning, subdivisions, site plans and building permits. They also check applications for compliance with our Town Zoning Ordinance and Subdivision and Land Development Regulations, and refer applications to the Planning Division or Zoning Board of Appeals where necessary.

Provides a wide variety of services essential to the health and well-being of all Genesee County Residents. Service areas include public water supply protection, community sanitation and food protection, private water and sewage disposal systems, realty subdivision plan review, public health nuisances, residential lead investigations, chemical emergencies, rabies investigations, and enforcement of both the Adolescent Tobacco Use and Prevention Act (ATUPA) and the NYS Clean Indoor Air Act (CIAA). The Environmental Health division also operates multiple anti-rabies immunization clinics annually to administer vaccines to domestic animals, including cats, dogs, and ferrets, in order to reduce the spread of the potentially life threatening disease.

The Zoning Board of Appeals processes variance applications arising from building permit denials, accessory Apartment applications, two Family - Family Use Only applications ("Mother Daughter" applications), Special Exceptions - Permits for various uses specified in the Zoning Ordinance. Provides professional planning and technical services regarding the Town's land use, environmental choices, infrastructure and cultural and natural resources for all Town elected and appointed Boards and the public.

Reviews and subsequently approves or denies residential and commercial subdivisions within the Town. Holds public hearings on proposed projects. Consists of five members appointed by the Town Board.

Issues building permits, C.O. inspections and searches, stop work orders, building violations, sign permits, flood development permits, and fire inspections.

The Building Department maintains a variety of information for each property in the Village. Building permits, plans, certificates of occupancy and surveys are just some of the documents that may be available in the Building Department. The Building Department is also the principal code enforcement agency of the Village for many non-police matters. In addition to enforcing local zoning and the N.Y.S. Uniform Building and Fire Prevention Codes, which regulate the use and occupancy of private land and structures, the Building Inspector, Code Enforcement Officer, and Fire Inspectors are responsible for the enforcement of various other Village Code regulations.
