Responsible for physical development of ongoing and long range projects in the city: investigates, evaluates. implements local, state and Federal housing legislation and programs investigates environmental impacts of alternative courses of action works to preserve historic resources and improve city's appearance plans, implements programs to strengthen residential neighborhoods plans, implements strategies for improving the city's economic vitality plans, implements improvements to the city's recreation and open space system evaluates alternate solutions to transportation problems such as highways, roads, mass transit applies for, administers grants state and federal for city programs develops, maintains city Geographic Information System (GIS)

Processes land development applications including zoning, subdivisions, site plans and building permits. They also check applications for compliance with our Town Zoning Ordinance and Subdivision and Land Development Regulations, and refer applications to the Planning Division or Zoning Board of Appeals where necessary.

Offers economic development loans for commercial development/maintenance, housing rehabilitation loans for rental properties, and loans to help with water and sewer issues. Helps to identify other funding sources to help build the local business economy, including providing demographic and statistical data, identifying commercial sites and buildings, coordinating reviews and help with understanding and complying with local zoning and code laws.

Provides professional planning and technical services regarding the Town's land use, environmental choices, infrastructure and cultural and natural resources for all Town elected and appointed Boards and the public.

Oversee the orderly growth and development of the County, seeking to balance economic growth with environmental protection and historic preservation. The Nassau County Planning Commission is mandated by law to approve subdivision of land within the unincorporated areas of the County and offer recommendations to municipalities on zoning referrals. The Planning Department staff processes and reviews subdivision applications and zoning referrals, and makes recommendations to the Planning Commission. The Department is also charged with advising the County Executive, the County Legislature, and County departments in regard to the physical development of the County. Call for detailed information.

Prepares for economic development, industry growth and population increases.

Provides the maintenance and enforcement of land development according to the environmental and conservation laws, including assisting the municipalities, organizations and businesses who are growing and establishing new developments or reorganizing within the county.
