With the study of Greece and Hellenism the Center aspires to educate and nurture students with the values of Hellenic civilization. It also aims to form strong bonds between the University and the Greek-American communities of Long Island and New York, and establish connections and interactions with educational and academic institutions in Greece. Has long been a vital center of intellectual innovations and scholarly exchanges not only for the Stony Brook community but also for the entire U.S. Uniquely poised to be a hub for research and education in Korean religions and philosophy, the Center has trained and sponsored many Ph.D. students in Korean religions and Buddhism who are now academic leaders in Korea and the U.S., hosted various conferences, talks, seminars, and various cultural events, and worked with the community in various projects to bring Korea to campus. The most prominent area of the Center’s dedication is publications. It has published a dozens of series of manuscripts and research projects in Korean studies, through which the Center not only helped laying the foundation of the Korean Studies as a new discipline in the United States, but also located and supported emerging young scholars in Korean studies. Many projects at the Center have involved collaboration with universities and scholars in Korea, while others have engaged campus and off-campus communities in teaching and learning about broader global and international society through Korea. Is dedicated to being the foremost world-class center of Asian and Asian American arts and culture. The Charles B. Wang Center manifests this commitment by creating, establishing, organizing and documenting programs of the highest caliber that reflect both traditional and contemporary Asian and Asian American cultures and societies. These programs include exhibitions, films, lectures, conferences, performances, and educational discussions. The Charles B. Wang Center also supports scholarship and publications of eminence and intellectual merit. In public programs that respond to the broad issues of Asian and Asian American arts and culture, the Charles B. Wang Center seeks to create a dialogue between the established and the experimental, and between the past and the present. Central to the Charles B. Wang Center's mission is the encouragement of an ever-deeper understanding and enjoyment of Asian and Asian American arts and culture by diverse local, national and international audiences. These audiences are composed of students, faculty, artists, scholars and general public members of the Stony Brook community that the Center serves. The Charles B. Wang Center is ideal for hosting a variety of conferences and events. The versatile 124,000-square-foot layout features five multi-purpose meeting rooms of various sizes, two lecture halls, a fully equipped 239-seat theater, four open-air galleries and a non-denominational chapel. On the main floor is Jasmine, a food court cafe offering an array of delicious, fresh and seasonal Asian dishes. With state-of-the-art technology, the Charles B. Wang Center has the ability to link scholars and researchers from all over the world in real time. Has become an integral part of the Italian and Italian-American community on Long Island. Its mission is multifaceted: First, to stimulate interdisciplinary research by the local academic community on issues that encourage a better understanding of Italy and of Italian Americans; Second, to become a national and international focus for Italian and Italian American affairs and Third, to promote a better understanding of Italy and of Italian Americans by bringing the latest scholarly findings on Italy and Italian Americans to the general public as well as by organizing cultural activities of general interest. The Center for Italian Studies takes pride in its efforts to focus both on scholarly endeavors as well as cultural enrichment for the community.
