Pilot initiative: a 10-person cohort of low-income entrepreneurs will work with SBDC and AE to prepare, apply for, and participate in a 10-month program. Programming will be similar to Business Accelerator programming, with additional mentoring and workshops, with plans to include participant stipends when funding allows.

The center is staffed by professionals with knowledge and experience to provide expert counseling and training for addressing the myriad of problems inherent in the start up and operation of small business. Services, all free of charge, include assistance with Business Plan Development, Small Business Start-Up assistance, Organizational Structures, Financial Planning, Export Assistance, Cost Analysis, Financing Strategies, Loan Information Assistance, Marketing, and Training Programs. The center counseling is free though a small charge may be made for actual costs associated with training courses or research. Call for details and an appointment. HOME funds are typically used in partnership with private developers, local nonprofit groups, and community housing development organizations (CHDOs), to finance a variety of affordable housing production activities including new construction or rehabilitation of vacant properties into rental or homebuyer units. According to HOME regulations, at least 15% of each Program Year funding must be set-aside for projects owned, sponsored and/or developed by Community Housing Development Organizations (CHDOs) and 10% is reserved for administration and planning.
Promote economic development in the county by helping businesses expand and grow, increase employment opportunities and add to the quality of life for the residents of Suffolk County. They focus on attracting new business, supporting the expansion of existing industry, and mobilizing local and regional assets supporting regional long-term growth and economic development. A certified Community Development Financial Institution (CDFI) established in 2003 as the economic development arm of Chautauqua Opportunities, Inc. (COI). CODI is committed to fostering entrepreneurship and small business growth by providing training, technical assistance, and access to loan capital—particularly for microenterprises that are unable to obtain traditional financing. Our clients often face significant barriers such as limited credit history, insufficient collateral, or a lack of business experience. CODI addresses these challenges through robust technical assistance, including: - Business Loans and Lines of Credit to new and existing businesses to help with equipment, inventory and operating expenses. CODI offers both Micro (up to $5,000) and Term ($5,000 - $50,000) products. - Microenterprise Assistance Program (MAP) grants up to $25,000 to businesses in partnership with the Chautauqua County Partnership for Economic Growth. - Business of the Week promotional social media posts to increase local businesses awareness at no cost. - A 14-hour Small Business Essentials training course that covers Basic Business Structure, Internet Business Basics, Defining Your Customer, Target Marketing, Finances and Bookkeeping. - CODI’s Home Appliance Loan Program provides consumers with affordable financing terms as an alternative to predatory rent-to-own establishments. Focuses on creating asset development opportunities for both residents and entrepreneurs. Assists individuals in growing and investing in their communities by providing lending capital, training, consulting, technical assistance, seminars, workshops, and low-cost business rental space to new and existing businesses that would otherwise lack access to these services. Assists area residents in developing asset based thinking by providing financial literacy training, basic budgeting, and home appliance loans to combat predatory lenders. Loan programs and Cottage Industry Assistance Program target low to moderate income existing and prospective individuals. Chautauqua Microenterprise Loan Fund and the Women and Minority Microenterprise Loan Fund Programs help small businesses by providing small business start up and expansion loans. The small business incubator offers small businesses an opportunity to grow and stabilize with subsidies around rent, business services, and technical assistance. Program site serves as a Warming Center during times of excessive cold and as a Cooling Center during times of excessive heat. Always call ahead to make sure a Warming/Cooling Center is open before going there.
