Collects, preserves, and exhibits objects and documents about the whaling industry and whale conservation today and about Cold Spring Harbor and Long Island maritime history for its diverse public and school/group visitors. There are self-guided tours on tapes for French, German, Italian, and Spanish speakers. Provides a Speakers Bureau which presents on topics dealing with maritime history, whaling, biology, marine mammals, and other related topics. Publishes newsletter titled A Whaling Account. Provides yachting and lifesaving exhibits, workshops, and small craft collections. Adjacent to the Suffolk County Golf Course. School tours are also offered.

Provides educational programming, outreach, and classes in commercial fisheries, seafood marketing, aquaculture, marine environmental issues, and fisheries technology. Offers a summer camp program featuring environmental science for children 6-12 years old.
