Educate our community on historical events, and to promote issues of social justice and respect for human dignity through educational programming. Our vision is of a world in which each person can live in peaceful coexistence and pursue a life in freedom and dignity, and in which our citizens reflect upon their moral responsibilities. In addition to programs and events, we offer tours of our Holocaust museum which houses the largest collection of Holocaust artifacts in the region. The CSJHU office and Gallery are located in the Huntington Library on the Colleges Ammerman Campus in Selden, NY. Guided tours are available for classes and groups. The Centers staff also arranges diversity and intercultural programs that focus on social justice issues and promote themes of coexistence, tolerance, and respect for differences. Offers a 62-acre site set along Hempstead Harbor on the scenic North Shore, Garvies Point includes permanent exhibits and educational programs devoted to regional geology and Native-American archaeology. In addition, changing exhibits cover a variety of natural history subjects. There are about five miles of marked nature trails including trails for the visually impaired. Offers an interactive facility where individuals, families and groups can experience first-hand the proud tradition of firefighting in our communities. Visitors can also trace the history of firefighting in Nassau County with hands-on exhibits that feature antique and contemporary fire apparatus and gear. The Center offers interactive fire safety programs for Pre-K through high school students. These programs are taught by a current or retired firefighter in our interactive theater. In addition, the Center offers guided and non-guided tours to groups of all types. From Cub Scouts and summer camps to retirement communities and community organizations, group tours of the Museum promises to be a fun and educational experience for visitors of all ages. Located on the roof of Herman A. Berliner Hall the Observatory offers programs to the general public during our “Stars on Sundays” and other astronomy outreach events. Music and Astronomy Under the Stars will resume this the summer. Free astronomy festival with stargazing at outdoor concerts and events bringing astronomy to the public with activities for kids of all ages. This Hofstra-sponsored program comprises videos, posters, banners, and hands-on-activities for all ages. There will be special solar telescope observations prior to the concerts and telescope observations of the Moon, Saturn, Jupiter, multi-colored double stars, star clusters, and nebulae at intermission and after the events. Hofstra's Astronomy Outreach Program has brought the wonder of star-gazing to hundreds of children and adults at Long Island schools, hospitals, non-for-profit groups, parks, and beaches.
