ARTS COUNCIL OF THE EAST ISLIP PUBLIC LIBRARY | EAST ISLIP PUBLIC LIBRARY

Promotes art and culture in the community. Holds a juried Art Show at the Bayard Cutting Arboretum each October to display the works of local artists age 18 and up. The East Islip Arts Council, a volunteer group promoting art and artists in the community, meets at the library.

NASSAU COUNTY MUSEUM OF ART | NASSAU COUNTY MUSEUM OF ART

Located at the former Frick Estate, a spectacular 145-acre property in Roslyn Harbor in the heart of Long Island's fabled Gold Coast. The main museum building, named in honor of art collectors and philanthropists Arnold and Joan Saltzman, is a three-story Georgian mansion that exemplifies Gold Coast architecture of the late 19th century. In addition to the Arnold & Joan Saltzman Fine Art Building, Nassau County Museum of Art includes the Sculpture Park, Formal Gardens of historic importance, the Pinetum, ponds, woodlands, an architecturally-significant restored trellis, rare specimen trees, and marked walking trails. Serves more than 18,000 Long Island school children and their teachers who visit the museum each year for exhibition tours and art-related activities. The Education Department additionally sponsors extensive programming for children, adults and family groups and also offers professional development to Long Island's educators. Many of our venues are open to the public and showcase the talents of our students and professors to the greater community. The Steinberg Museum of Art is hailed by The New York Times for its impressive collections, Steinberg Museum of Art at Hillwood serves as an integral part of the cultural resources at LIU Post. Each year the museum features exhibitions, lectures, demonstrations and symposia to enrich, inform and educate our students, the Campus and local communities. The Hutchins Gallery, located in the lower level of the Library, is a magnificent exhibit hall that showcases the sculpture and painting of local artists, faculty and students. The Student Art League Gallery Located in Hillwood Commons, displays the artwork of undergraduate and graduate art students. Exhibits range from one-person shows to small group exhibits, and include displays of ceramics, paintings, mixed media, multi-media and photography. Call for more detailed information.

GEOLOGY OPEN NIGHT LECTURES | STONY BROOK UNIVERSITY

Offers Geology Open Nights which are part of a science lecture series which are free and open to the public. The Geology lectures are usually presented by faculty on aspects of their research, expertise or a topic of public interest. This series is offered in conjunction with our Astronomy, Physics and Ecology and Evolution Departments. Usually four lectures a semester are scheduled. In-service credit is available for teachers attending the Geology Open Night Lectures. Some disability-related accommodations are available. Call the Department before 4pm to inform them of your requirements. Due to COVID-19, the Open Night Series will be held virtually this semester. Bicycles restricted from Boardwalk. No pets allowed year round in park.
