Provides education to the community on alcohol and drug impaired driving. Administers andCoordinates countywide impaired driving grant project, Coordinated Checkpoints and enforcement campaign. Educational and Informational materials are also available for schools, clubs and civic organizations.
Offers an Impaired Driver Program for eligible motorists convicted of Driving While Intoxicated (DWI), or Driving While Alcohol Impaired (DWAI). The Department of Motor Vehicles determines eligibility for the program. For drivers convicted in New York State or with a New York state driver’s license, you must register for the program at the Department of Motor Vehicles. If you were convicted in a different state and you do not have a New York license, we can register you directly for the program. For detailed information on the program visit the DMV website. The County STOP-DWI incorporates various local efforts to reduce alcohol and other drug related traffic crashes, funded through fines collected from violators. Programs include traffic safety, prosecution of offenses, and treatment services.

Enforcement - includes 13 local police departments, sheriffs and state police. Adjudication - includes public defenders, prosecution and magistrates. Rehabilitation - includes an alcohol abuse counselor and a probation officer. Education - includes many programs geared to raising public awareness with a particular focus on students in local schools. The program is entirely funded through drunk driving fines received through town, village, city and county courts. No Yates County tax dollars are involved.
